Job Description:

Director/ Senior Director, Tax Technology and Automation

Alvarez & Marsal’s Taxand practice is seeking a Director or Senior Director to lead tax technology and automation efforts for the practice’s clients. This hire will be responsible for managing the impact of clients’ existing and emerging technology, including the growing data burden, driving efficiencies to create a cost-effective tax function and the need to understand how to make data an asset. The underlying objective is to help clients navigate the digital age of tax transparency and automation while staying up to date on new trends in tax compliance and tax audit methods.

How you'll contribute


  • Take ownership of Tax Technology and Automation tasks for clients/stakeholders and monitor them until completion, including documenting requirements, configuration, testing, debugging, project profitability, and tax systems and process configuration

  • Evaluate current processes to determined inefficiencies and identify areas for automation using existing financial or tax systems and emerging technologies

  • Consolidate tax data to make analysis and planning more efficient

  • Improve reporting capabilities to enhance clients’ ability to evaluate risk and capitalize on opportunities

  • Recommend information technology strategies by evaluating the cost/benefit analysis for the new solution

  • Establish and implement training processes and strategies for the new technology

Qualifications


  • A Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Accounting, Tax Technology, Management Information Systems, or Information Technology & Accounting and/or a Master’s degree in related field and a minimum of six years of related work experience

  • Licensed CPA or admission to Bar required

  • A strong interest in technology and its use in business processes

  • Excellent communication and business writing skills

  • A natural flair for problem solving and an entrepreneurial approach to work

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Demonstrated ability to capture and synthesize business requirements

  • Experience implementing third-party direct or indirect tax systems (such as ONESOURCE, CorpTax, Alteryx, Vertex, Avalara, Longview, etc.)

  • Microsoft Power BI suite

  • Experience managing large, multidisciplinary projects that impact tax (e.g., ERP implementations, tax co-sourcing engagements, finance transformations)
