Job Description:

The Employee Relations (ER) Senior Specialist is responsible for providing centralized ER support through advising and conducting workplace investigations on behalf of the enterprise. Day to day responsibilities include interviewing employees and leaders regarding workplace concerns, researching employee data, reviewing policies, taking partnership with HR and business leadership. Prepares and executes investigation plans and summarizes findings, assesses priority and manages relationships to effectively process a high volume of cases. Provides coaching and recommendations to employees, leaders, and HR partners across the organization within the course of fair and impartial investigations and upon request for in-the-moment guidance. Collaborates with peers and other members of the Employee Relations team, and cross-functional teams, to ensure consistency and minimize risk across the enterprise.

Employee Relations Investigations


  • Conducts all phases of investigative process for a high volume of Employee Relations cases across the enterprise, ensuring consistent and fair outcomes for all employees

  • Compiles facts through interviews, systems research, and business data to provide non-legal and workplace recommendations and insights to business and HR partners and decision-makers in accordance with company policy and practice

  • As needed, present case summaries to leaders, HR and cross-functional partners and Executives in a professional manner; respond to questions as they arise
  • Composes involuntary separation notices and assists leaders in documenting corrective action related to employee conduct and performance, in accordance with company policies
Business Partnership

  • As a result of investigation, notifies appropriate HR leader of concerns with the location’s culture and employee engagement opportunities. Provides guidance to employees and leaders on performance and conduct-related matters.

  • Partners with Fraud, Legal, Profit Protection, Ethics and Compliance where necessary to coordinate investigations and ensure consistency; Identifies opportunities to streamline partnerships and eliminate redundant effort

  • Use investigations, case data and observations to influence Territory leaders and Corporate Executives to improve engagement, and proactively address root cause of cultural concerns


  • Empower business leaders and HR partners to use available ER tools, resources and contextual team knowledge/history to address in-the-moment, minor concerns to reduce overall case volume; enable business leaders and HR partners to contact you for quick guidance to prevent delays or unnecessary investigations


  • Maintain consistent engagement with your business area’s leaders and HR partners to stay up to date on employee concerns and area trends (including sociopolitical climate, disaster events, etc.) to provide tailored people support

Trend Identification

  • Identifies inconsistencies and areas of opportunity between HR policies and business practices and policies, and takes appropriate partners to recommend reconciliation

  • Participates in internal ER and cross-functional project teams to develop and implement process improvements and policy changes throughout HR and the broader organization

  • Responds to urgent case trends and collaborates with peer group and ER leadership to develop in-the-moment solutions as well as long-term strategy quickly, with broad impact across the organization


Basic Qualifications

  • 2 years’ experience in investigation & Case Management experience from initiation to completion (including SOP compliance, Safety, Employee Relations, etc.)

  • 1 year experience interpreting, applying, and explaining complex policies and procedures

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience applying ER principles, knowing and understanding employment laws and their applications, and the ability to incorporate new practices into enterprise change initiatives
