The Senior Public Relations Manager will focus on building strong relationships with top-tier media influencers at outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, Associated Press and USA Today, representing Robert Half. This person drives national media outreach strategy for companywide programs and research. He or she must interface regularly with field leadership to identify interview sources, uncover or validate emerging workplace trends and help develop survey questions that yield newsworthy results. The Senior PR Manager is tasked with identifying new and innovative media relations strategies and sharing them broadly with the team. This individual serves as an integral part of the company’s combined national and local media team. Experience in the staffing industry and understanding of basic economic data is preferred.

Overview

• Develop national top-tier media strategy to build awareness and media coverage and forge strong, credible relationships with top-tier national, industry and business media


• Collaborate with PR team to develop ideas that can generate national and local coverage                     


• Partner with field and executive leadership to identify areas of opportunity for upskilling or identifying new media spokespeople and identifying newsworthy trends


• Plan and execute virtual and in-person media tours and briefings/interviews, including preparing spokespersons and serving as an onsite advisor, when appropriate


• Provide rapid responses to journalist requests without jeopardizing other projects


• Identify newsjacking opportunities and recommend and implement ideas


• Partner with broadcast booker for major media campaigns


• Help shape the media training program (in partnership with the field PR team) and ensure spokespeople are well-versed in messaging and interview tactics


• Ensure media bylines are compelling and deliver key business messages


• Help develop surveys on topics of interest to use in our media relations program    


• Partner closely with research and data manager to identify trends and develop recommendations for packaging information for media outreach


• Track and evaluate media coverage; refine media strategy, as necessary 

Desired Skills & Expertise

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. Prefer degree in Public Relations, Communications, English or Journalism.


• 8+ years’ PR experience in corporate or agency setting and/or previous journalism experience


• PRSA designation a plus


• Track record of translating business needs into successful PR strategies


• Experience managing PR agencies and vendors a plus


• Experience advising and training executives on media strategies


• Ability to coach and inspire others


• Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to build solid relationships with top-tier media


• Intellectual curiosity and strong news sense


• Strong writing and editing skills


• Strong social media and Microsoft Office skills


• Experience using media contact database software such as Cision and Public Relay
