The NCLEX Nursing Tutor is responsible for working with assigned students and/or graduates in understanding and applying key nursing concepts necessary to pass Concorde’s nursing courses and/or the national nursing licensure examination (“NCLEX”). The Nursing Tutor will report to the Director of Nursing. This individual must have a clear command of the NCLEX-PN® and/or NCLEX-RN® test blueprint depending on the program in which the tutor is hired to assist. Delivering tutoring instruction consistent with the application and analysis of concepts which incorporate critical thinking and test taking skills is required. This individual must be resourceful and collaborative. The goal of this position is to assist students in understanding and retaining key nursing concepts and passing the national licensure examination on their first attempt. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach time management and skills related to study and concept retention
Review test taking strategies, techniques and critical thinking skills
Tutor students in nursing concepts and content in assigned courses
Develop Power Point and other instructional resources to address necessary nursing content and concepts based on varying student needs for individual tutoring sessions and online weekly sessions
Conduct two (2) online weekly sessions lasting one hour per session
Assist with NCLEX-RN® preparation including use of Elsevier products. Discuss additional exam preparation products with DPN as applicable.
Maintain open communication between DON and nursing faculty through weekly written and verbal updates. Use requested forms to track progress and report information as provided by the DON
Request list of potential academically at-risk students and/or graduates from the DON
Assist students with navigating applicable Learning Management Systems (LMS)
Engage with students and graduates on completion of faculty and third-party vendor exam remediation plans in accordance with remediation and/or green light policies
Identify nursing resources that will assist students in preparation for proctored unit exams and HESI exams
Report student attendance and progress to the faculty and DON
Maintain an encouraging, supportive and positive attitude
Maintain the privacy of student progress during and after tutoring sessions
Maintain autonomy related to tutoring sessions date and time
Ensure schedule is conducive to student/graduate attendance based on the term and student/graduate schedules
Adheres to the policy and procedures of the organization
Perform other duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
Must hold an active and unencumbered registered nursing license
Master of Science in Nursing required from an accredited program
Three years combined experience in clinical and education settings required
Educational background assisting nursing students (preferred)
