About the Opportunity

The Controller is responsible for the timely and accurate management of all general accounting functions including A/R, A/P, order processing, monthly financial reporting, and financial planning, as well as ensuring that all financial information conforms to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policy. This position will also oversee the financial system and processes needed to provide staff with the financial information required to make effective and timely business decisions. The Controller will be expected to implement continuous improvement initiatives, act as a key member of the management team, and will report directly to the CFO of TruWest.

Essential Functions


  • Act as a financial leader and original thinker, taking the company through major process changes, technology implementations, systems overhauls and streamlining processes. In addition, assist the CFO in planning, budgeting, and financial modeling exercises.

  • Provide monthly financial package and commentary to the executive leadership team.

  • Analyze financial information to recommend or develop efficient use of resources and procedures, provide strategic recommendations and maintain solutions to business and financial problems.

  • Oversee calculation of commissions across all TruWest related entities.

  • Oversee reconciliation of monthly statements, ensuring that all financial reporting deadlines (including but not limited to monthly, quarterly and year end close) are met.

  • Provide strategic financial analysis and business consulting to operations management.

  • Ensure accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses.

  • Ensure that sales tax returns are filed by due date after review and verification to general ledger.

  • Act as a key team member in the maintaining financial work streams in company ERP, NetSuite

  • Prepare and maintain accounting records and assist in implementing an electronic records management system.

  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with all banks, vendors (i.e. accountants / tax advisers), customers, and key accounting staff.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree with concentration in Accounting or equivalent related field. Master's degree in Business or Accounting preferred.

  • Licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Ohio

  • A minimum of 8-10 years of related work experience, including experience managing direct reports.

  • Ability to independently complete complex and challenging financial functions on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy is required.

  • Must possess a thorough understanding of account controls, processes, financial statement preparation and GAAP.

  • Must be able to manage multiple assignments, direct reports, and competing priorities with tight deadlines.

  • A high level of personal integrity and professionalism are critical.

  • Familiarity with and aptitude for understanding legal concepts.

  • Ability to think creatively and to translate vision into effective working projects.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively and professionally with other departments (Sales, Operations).

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently without close supervision.

  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.

  • Previous experience with NetSuite and Salesforce.com is preferred.
