Role Summary:
Ametek Solidstate Controls has an immediate opening for a Regional technical manager based out of our Stafford, TX office. Reporting to the Senior Technical Manager, you will be providing technical support to a team of 7 FSE’s (Field Service Engineers). This will include detailed technical conversations to help the FSE with issues in the field. Analyzing schematic drawings to walk through the system and help identify problem areas within our range of industrial UPS systems. The position will require a rotating weekend on call phone support schedule.
This will be a challenging role, which demands a high level of understanding of industrial UPS systems and the petrochemical and power generation industries, ensuring Superior Client Service is a priority for all involved in the regional service team.

Responsibilities include:
Reading and approving all technical reports submitted by the FSE team on a timely basis.
Reading and approving all expense reports submitted by the FSE team on a timely basis.
Actively maintain and update all technical services tracking information and databases to support superior technical expertise within the service team.
Creating a team environment where the regional service team can be successful. This includes holding team members accountable where necessary and fostering a healthy team spirit. Field visits will be required to appraise the performance of each FSE.
Performing disciplinary action when needed according to HR guidelines.
Creating a safety culture that complies with all regulatory requirements and promotes personal accountability within the team. A target of zero accidents and incidents.
Responsible for the hiring of new FSE’s where required.
Reporting any issues within the regional team to the Senior Technical Manager with solutions in place.
Participate in internal and external meetings.
Liaising with the regional service scheduler to ensure the smooth operation and optimal utilization of the FSE team.
Liaising with clients.
Liaising with R&D department and factory.
Develop and implement strategies that will achieve organizational goals and create streamlined processes.
Maintaining a corporate credit card account.
Organizing own travel arrangements through corporate portal.
Any other duties that will be required to help ensure the regional service team is successful.

Desired Characteristics:
Excellent interpersonal, leadership, coaching and employee development skills.
A solid understanding of industrial UPS systems to include rectification and inversion and the components involved.
General knowledge of the petrochemical and power generation industry.
Excellent communication and problem solving skills, ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities and able to operate successfully in a medium sized organization.
A strong knowledge of safety and all of the industry regulations involved.

Qualifications:

It is preferred that the candidate holds a Bachelor of Science in Electronics/Electrical Engineering Technology; or Military equivalence; or an Associate’s degree with 5 years or more in field service experience. A minimum of 2 years of experience in the power electronics or similar field. Experience should include preventive maintenance, commissioning new systems and repair of uninterruptible power supplies and associated equipment. Strong AC/DC power electronics and application skills. Familiarity with industrial networking equipment. Strong understanding of multimeters and oscilloscopes is a plus. It is essential that the candidate can read and understand electrical schematics.
Experience in managing a successful service team is highly desirable.
Position will require on-call status on a rotating weekend basis.
