We have an opportunity in our East Granby, Connecticut, state-of-the-art facility, in our Optical Fiber Business Unit. As a Manufacturing Engineer at Coherent, you will:
Develop and implement improvements to manufacturing processes to maximize productivity and efficiency while ensuring day-to-day manufacturing flow
Monitor process yields, pareto root cause and implement corrective actions in conjunction with Engineering and Manufacturing
Support employee involvement in a continuous improvement culture while maintaining compliance to manufacturing policies, controls, workmanship standards, and procedures - Implement these improved processes, methods, and workflow optimization to realize cost savings
Coordinate and qualify Engineering Changes to assure minimum delays or interruptions to production
Organizes material flow to assure production of customer deliveries are maintained, while minimizing work-in-process
Establish equipment maintenance schedules and assure preventive maintenance and calibration is maintained
Interact with engineering and supply chain to manage supplier requirements and schedules to maintain delivery commitments
Meet safety, workmanship, cost, and customer delivery expectations with emphasis on quality standards
Ensure a safe work environment and cultivate safe behaviors
Work with the Engineering team to help determine the most cost-efficient designs, and manage introduction of new products into production (NPI), while improving product manufacturability
Education and Work Experience:
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or related engineering degree
5+ years of hands-on experience in a high tech continuous improvement-oriented manufacturing environment.or experience in high-volume production environment
Knowledge of Minitab or other statistical analysis software
Expertise in yield data analysis and process FMEA
Demonstrated experience developing process documentation and establishing process capability using SPC
Ability to analyze manufacturing cost structures utilizing BOMs and routings into a computerized ERP system
Mastery of the MS Office Suite including using Excel for data analysis and charting and experience using PowerPoint
Knowledge of 5S and Lean practices
Desired Qualifications:
Fiber optic experience strongly preferred
Masters degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or related engineering degree
Experience with Oracle, Agile and ISO 13485
Strong degree of self-motivation and direction required using discretion and judgment on a regular basis.
Ability to work with minimal supervision and also be an effective team member
Good oral and written communication skills
