Job Description: (Storage Performance Analysis Engineer)

This position is for the DataCenterSolutions Performance Measurement/Analysis team. The Performance team is responsible for defining, selecting and utilizing benchmarking tools to ensure that the products designed by the company meet expectations for data transfer speed and latency to insure Broadcom is the performance leader in the storage space. This team is continually working with state of the art equipment on leading edge storage products in support of R&D, Architecture and marketing.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute in all phases, from selection of hardware and tools, setting appropriate testplans and expectations, automating system configuration and data collection, doing in depth analysis of performance results across many different servers, workloads and topologies, and working with the development team to debug, root cause and resolve any anomalies.

The position allows the opportunity to work directly in support of industry partners and customers with industry influence in the form of white paper analysis to showcase and enable our customers to drive the very best performance possible.

Interaction with external customers, marketing, engineering architecture and development teams is expected as to quantify current product performance levels and drive future performance goals and targets for our storage products. A customer service oriented culture is necessary given the high level of interaction with other organizations.

Responsibilities:

  • Understanding the product designs/architecture and derive appropriate testable scenarios to ensure the product is aligned with performance requirements/user expectations.

  • Understand product road maps and update the test plans to ensure coverage of the most important applications during performance testing.

  • Specifying/guiding methodology & automated/scripted host software tools to exercise the test server

  • Developing automated test scripts to externally control the system under test

  • Working with the software and architecture teams as part of the performance optimization process

  • Working with external customers to root cause and resolve performance issues

  • Working with marketing to develop and summarize key technical data for customers

  • Creating and executing performance test plans

  • Collecting performance data

  • Creating and publishing performance summary test reports

  • Creating and publishing user guides and white paper analysis about performance & use cases

  • Working with architecture to identify improvements and make performance tradeoffs

  • Stay abreast of industry developments and competitive pressures

  • Determine impact of server architecture evolution on storage performance and driver execution

  • Document and describe architectural aspects of performance

  • Identify creative ways to optimize performance in a variety of end to end system environments

  • Communicate performance analysis to the development community, marketing and customers

  • Guide the development of internal test and data collection processes to facilitate rapid, reliable and repeatable performance results and analysis

Qualifications:

Minimum Education/Requirements/Qualifications required for this job:

  • Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science is a minimum

  • 8+ Years Industry Experience

  • Solid understanding of modern server computer architecture including topics such as

    • BIOS Settings and impacts

    • NUMA Impacts, affinity settings, binding of process threads

    • Execution across multiple cpu cores, chiplets, and sockets



  • Understanding of Operating Systems such as Linux and Windows Server

    • Structure and organization of OS Stack, especially for Storage/SCSI/NVMe

    • OS Settings and impacts for Storage



  • Experience with scripting languages Python, Perl etc

Highly Desirable Experience Includes:

  • Substantial working experience in Storage industry

  • Debugging experience in the server based RAID and storage space

  • Storage technology applications & implementation

  • Software programming and debugging skills is a plus

  • Engineering based test process development and software test methodology

  • Large data set collection, reporting and analysis

  • Working in a hardware test lab

  • Experience with serial protocols (PCIe, SAS, SATA, NVMe)

Additional Job Description:

Compensation and Benefits

This annual base salary range for this position is $85,200 - $142,000.

This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in accordance with the relevant plan documents and equity in accordance with equity award agreements.
