Job Description:

VSE Corporation is seeking an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC I (Airframer) for our worksite in Norfolk, VA (Norfolk 2) on MH-60 Aircraft

SUMMARY: The Aircraft Mechanic I is responsible for thorough inspections of aircraft frames, mechanical components and electrical systems to locate wear, defects and other problems. They read documentation and other repair manuals to determine standards and procedures, and test aircraft functions using diagnostic instruments to ensure those standards are being met. The Aircraft Mech I repairs or replaces components using hand or power tools with all technical data and procedures while maintaining quality and productivity standards. The Aircraft Mechanic I applies technical expertise throughout all aircraft maintenance and modification and leverages this expertise to solve moderate to complex technical issues.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Processes the technical experience to supervise subordinate mechanics and provide technical guidance on maintenance operations on the airframe being supported.

  • Maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures and structural components of moderate to complex difficulty

  • Maintains and repairs aircraft components including, but not limited to, flight controls, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical complements, and applies technical knowledge of airframe in determining equipment malfunction.

  • Applies technical expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation.

  • Applies professional technical expertise and guidance to solve problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) manuals.

  • Makes entries in aircraft log and records clearly annotating all maintenance work on the aircraft / aircraft components.

  • Provides guidance and technical expertise to lower level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and / or maintenance efforts.

  • Promote a culture of safety by monitoring self and others to ensure all duties are performed within the guidelines as specified by VSE Corporation, customer and DoD requirements.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

·High school diploma or equivalent

·Five (5) years of experience repairing sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, and general mechanical maintenance of simple to moderate difficulty, required to meet the assigned missions.

·Work typically requires a thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, a thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems.

·Detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc. is required.

·Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance required for continued employment.

·Eligibility for (and ability to maintain) CAC and Special Access Badge

·Local training licenses and/or certification may be required.

·Read, write and understand the English language


PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:


·Valid State-issued driver’s license
* Five (5) to seven (7) years experience on the MH-60 aircraft

·FAA Airframe and Powerplant certificate

·Current Secret Clearance

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Must be able to lift twenty-five (25) pounds unassisted.

  • Subject to continual loud noises.

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, and stand for prolonged periods of time, climb ladders and/or service stands, balance, Repetitive Motion, Eye/Hand Coordination, Fine Manipulation, Visual acuity must be a minimum of 20/40 corrected and must be able to distinguish color.

  • Normal or corrected hearing

  • Must be able to wear and breathe through a full-face respirator.

  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals and requires use of all safety equipment.

  • Must be able to access all areas of the aircraft.

  • The selected applicant will be subject to a background check and drug testing.
