The senior product manager leads one of Watermark’s products in our portfolio of solutions that enables clients to make better data driven decisions to improve educational outcomes. They will define a clear product vision and strategy tied to our portfolio vision and ensure successful delivery as well as overall continued product growth and success. The senior product manager will follow best practices in product management, user centered design, and agile development. Working with other product managers, engineers, and subject matter experts, you will apply incremental delivery principles to working practices, driving the delivery of value; communicating progress, eliciting feedback and enabling stakeholder reviews for validation in the process.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate, gather, and lead research on competition, alternative offerings, and market trends within the context of a product and/or product line; Synthesize findings from all signals to optimize decision making
Create product strategy with prioritized roadmap initiatives for a product / product line (set of modules) that aligns across teams and accounts for portfolio vision and needed resource allocation to achieve goals
Work with senior leadership to develop and refine product and portfolio vision and strategy; Clearly communicate product strategy internally and externally
Develop business cases for new opportunities and engage with business stakeholders to make decisions on new investments
Account for full product business, user, and technical needs in all plans and drive team awareness - across both the front-end experience and often unstated non-functional requirements for performance, scale, failure modes, security, compliance, and maintenance
Lead a variety of roadmap initiatives, across diverse and multiple streams of work and proactively identifying and mitigating risks
Work with product owners, product managers to ensure successful release progress; act in the role of product owner as required
Collaborate with PMs across other product lines to drive greater product interoperability and process synergies that maximize portfolio value
Solve problems with high complexity and uncertainty, ensuring creative solutions with opportunity for greatest ROI
Collaborate in the development and execution of go to market plans, working proactively and across all stakeholders to anticipate needed communication and planning
Proactively seek opportunities for partnership and can gather evidence to support decisions on buy/partner/build
Drive initiatives to gather strategic feedback and improve all aspects of the product - from product features, to client satisfaction, to services, to sales, to support
Lead resolution of complex escalated issues, coordinating between technical and client facing teams
Develop, track, and report on key product line metrics, including P&L, that inform product / product line success and inform decisions with data
Mentor junior team members
Required Skills and Experience
6+ years of experience in a direct product manager role
Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, or related field or equivalent work experience
Excellent ability to work with a wide range of functions ranging from business experts to developers
Excellent understanding of software development life cycles (SDLC) and Agile frameworks
Proven ability to deliver on a new product challenge quickly while maximizing business and user value
Strong analytical skills and demonstrated experience in product improvement through the use of data driven analysis
Skilled at working with cross functional groups in multiple geographies
Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously with frequent interruptions
Ability to manage and maximize the value of partner relationships
Experience developing or supporting the development of business cases
Excellent ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, clients, and other departments
