Director of Accounting

BIOTRONIK is looking to add a Diretor of Accounting to our Finance and Accounting team.  The Director of Accounting leads the day-to-day activities and continuous improvement of the Accounting team in Biotronik Corporate Services.  The Director ensures accounting compliance with GAAP/IFRS, parent company policies and procedures, as well as the efficient and accurate closing of the company’s financial statements on a monthly and annual basis. The Director has overall responsibility for general ledger accounting, internal controls, financial audit, tax, treasury, and banking relationships.  

The Director will work cooperatively with all levels and functions in the business including Research & Development, Manufacturing, Field Sales, FP&A, IT, and Administration. As a key leader within the Finance and Accounting team, the Director is expected to mentor and develop a high-performing team.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Direct the day-to-day accounting operations of the business.

  • Develop, evaluate, improve, and implement the necessary reports to enable management at all levels of the organization to clearly understand the financial situation of the company at any point in time. These reports will include, but are not limited to, balance sheets, income statements and statements of cash flows.

  • Maintain financial records, with detailed support and analysis for all accounts, in accordance with GAAP and organizational standards.

  • Establish and maintain an internal controls protocol for the company, focused on risk mitigation and compliance with all company and regulatory policies.

  • Ensure the timely and accurate closing, and reporting, of the financial accounts of the company to both internal and external parties.

  • Ensure the timely and accurate completion of the annual financial audit by the company’s independent auditors, including financial statement preparation.

  • Assist in the management of the company’s banking relationships, including credit cards.

  • Collaborate with the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team in the utilization of automated tools for updating, analyzing, and reporting financial results.

  • Prepare and present financial results, and other impactful and actionable information to management.

  • Establish policies for the effective management of customer credit risk and accounts receivable turnover.  

  • Support leadership and others in the organization with ad-hoc requests related to all areas of accounting and finance.

  • Maintain and support various accounting and finance systems, including SAP.

  • Identify and promote efficiency and effectiveness through improved processes and automation.

  • Deliver continuous improvement by assessing problem situations, identifying root causes, gathering and processing relevant information, generating possible solutions, and making recommendations and/or resolving the problem.

  • Other ad-hoc requests as deemed necessary by management.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting 

  • CPA  

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including experience building and leading a high performing team of direct reports.

  • Minimum of five years of audit experience in a national public accounting firm and a strong command of generally accepted accounting principles.

  • Expertise in financial systems, reporting and technical accounting skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior executives.

  • Ability to frame an issue and solve problems with root cause analysis and continuous improvement principles.

  • Ability and willingness to be hands-on and dive into the detailed, tactical execution of the accounting responsibilities.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated understanding of accounting systems; SAP or similar ERP system preferred.

  • Strong leadership, strategic agility, critical thinking, and analytical skills - proven high learning agility.

  • Must be able to adapt to rapidly changing demands of the position, customer needs and the organization.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

  • Team player and willing to adapt to new tasks and projects.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with ability to prioritize, coordinate and simultaneously maintain multiple projects with high level of quality and productivity.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • Experience working with international companies and foreign owned subsidiaries preferred. 

  • SAP experience preferred.

  • German language ability is a plus.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Position oversees accounting team consisting of general / senior accountants, controller, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, travel and expense administrator.

TRAVEL:


  • Occasional domestic and international required for company meetings and events.
