The Digital Operation Engineer Co-op is designed to give students experience in a cutting-edge field and to help accelerate Emerson’s digital transformation of our global factories by assisting with the development and refinement of the digital manufacturing platform vision and strategy.  One of the main outputs will be creating on-demand, website-based tools and references of manufacturing capabilities and expertise for better communication with employees throughout the company.  This project will provide the opportunity to work cross-functionally with sales, engineering, and other departments to tailor tools to their needs, and to work with global factory teams to understand what capabilities and expertise to highlight on the Manufacturing Engineering website  

AS A Digital Operations Engineer Co-op, YOU WILL: 


  • Assist in the development of the digital manufacturing platform vision and strategy, including how to best deploy MES and other information technology tools, for automated manufacturing data collection with enhanced visuals and connectivity enabling near real-time performance tracking and management
  • Build standard dashboards for key process indicators in different levels of the business that roll up into aggregated production management views using tools, such as those included in Microsoft’s Power Platform.
  • Improve the Manufacturing Engineering Website by optimizing the existing information and compiling / developing new content with benefits to all factories, engineering, sales, project management, order management, and supply chain.  Content will include web-based lookup tools with information on plant capabilities as well as training and information on standards and other manufacturing reference material.
  • Assist with manufacturing automation projects globally, which could include projects such as:

    • Install cameras and computer systems running algorithms to perform final inspections that identify nonconforming products in real-time
    • Work with weld shop on real-time automated data collection for heat treat cycles
    • Assist manufacturing engineers in Asia on planning and implementation of fully automated lines for instrument manufacturing
    • Help evaluate incoming project ideas from factories for feasibility and strategic fit which will determine how projects are prioritized and budgeted
    • Develop and document best-practice processes and procedures for rollout of standard procedures globally

  • Work on new and interesting projects as they arise without hesitation

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:


  • Required Major(s): Any engineering major, or Computer Science
  • GPA: 3.0
  • Status: Minimum Sophomore standing (Junior or Senior standing preferred)

Preferred Qualifications


  • Self-starter who can work independently on assignments
  • Experience building or maintaining websites or other online collaboration spaces
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform tools, such as PowerBI, Power Automate, or Power Apps
  • Experience with data analytics, including working with databases, data analysis or data visualization software, and/or advanced skills in Excel
  • Experience with an aspect of manufacturing automation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Able to work well with teams to solve complex problems
  • Able to learn quickly and adapt to new information as it arises
  • Able to explain and/or train others in new processes and procedures
  • Competent with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
