ABOUT THE POSITION

The County of Riverside's - Riverside University Health System's has an opening for a Medical Social Worker II - Per-Diem to support day/night weekend coverage at RUHS Medical Center.

The selected candidate will provide support with discharge planning, crisis interventions and community referrals/follow up for patients in the emergency room or hospital. In doing so, the incumbent will be required to conduct psychosocial assessments, provide crisis counseling, and provide linkage to community resources and funding sources.

Candidates interested in this position must be able to work weekend shifts.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Performs studies of patients and their families to determine the nature of their problems; develops treatment plans, depending on need; coordinates and consults with medical and other Agency staff members and with outside agencies regarding available resources.

• Interprets significant emotional and social factors to Health Services Agency team members.

• Conducts training in social services aspects of medical treatment for Agency personnel outside of the social services unit; interviews patients and their families and friends to obtain information for case records.

• Provides social casework services in difficult cases to help patients and their families adjust to social, emotional, psychological and financial problems created by illness or disability.

• When appropriate, participates in group therapy; may serve in a lead capacity over other social workers in the Agency setting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a Master's degree in social work, family and child counseling, psychology, or sociology from a recognized school of social work. (Note: Some positions may require a specific Master's Degree in social work).

AND OPTION I

Experience: One year of experience as a Medical Social Worker I in the Health Services Agency.

OPTION II

Experience: One year of social case work experience performing duties comparable to Riverside County's Medical Social Worker I classification, preferably in a hospital or health care center.

OR

Experience: Ten years of experience as a Hospital Social Worker in Riverside General Hospital.

Knowledge of: Theory, principles, and techniques of medical social work, trends, standards, and terminology; social, emotional, behavioral, and economic implication of illness, disease, incapacitation, and disfigurement; the principles and dynamics of motivation; modern hospital/health care organization and functions; general laws relating to medical treatment and social services.

Ability to: Apply medical social work principles and concepts; conduct interviews to obtain accurate personal and psycho-social data; utilize community resources in a medical care program; establish effective professional casework relationships; prepare reports and correspondence; work effectively with other personnel.
