Overview

The Engineering Department of CAES has a career growth opportunity for a Digital Engineer at our sprawling campus in Lansdale, PA (Montgomery County). The position will require the selected candidate to learn Electronic Warfare or motion control concepts in support of 'best value' compliant technical solutions. This could include any combination of technical analysis, design, implementation, test, and documentation. You will work closely with other engineering disciplines to make decisions and ensure on-time/on-budget delivery of capabilities.

This position will at times require operating within a lab environment with peers resolving technical issues or implementing advanced solutions.


Responsibilities


  • Design and develop digital hardware, FPGAs, and micro-controllers to interface with real-time and closed-loop Electronic Warfare subsystems to achieve system goals

  • Interface with complex RF subsystems and/or motion controlled positioner assemblies

  • Learn and use engineering tools for new product development

  • Develop firmware/software for multi-board/processor systems with both FPGAs and CPUs

  • Design and create communications interfaces between equipment and the user

  • Research/design/develop/analyze new solutions to be employed in solving technical issues

  • Integrate and test with subsystems in various laboratory or field environments

  • Occasional domestic travel to support test activities and/or customer meetings


Qualifications

MINIMUM:
* BS Computer or Electrical Engineering.
* 0-2 years of experience and/or classes related to writing VHDL for state of the art FPGAs such as Altera or Xilinx or experience writing software for embedded micro-controllers.
* This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by US export laws. In order to be eligible for this position, you must be a "US Person" under US export laws (or eligible for approval under a U.S. Government export license).
* This position requires you to be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.


PREFERRED:
* 3+ months of experience and/or classes related to the design of digital hardware (FPGAs, micro-controllers, memory, ADCs, DSPs, etc.)
* 3+ months of experience and/or classes using laboratory or test equipment (e.g. signal generator, logic analyzer, oscilloscope, etc.)
* Familiar with common HW interfaces/data protocols (e.g. TCPIP, UDP, RS-422, USB, PCI, CAN).
* Signal processing using Analog-to-Digital (ADC) and Digital-to-Analog (DAC) components.
* Familiar with motion control or various automation devices; limit switches, encoders, resolvers, relays, etc.
* Experience interfacing with and parameters of RF components; switches, amplifiers, etc.
* Strong verbal communication skills with ability to present data and explain results to key stakeholders.
* High degree of ingenuity, creativity and resourcefulness to design and deliver advanced solutions.
* Familiar with Altium Designer for schematic entry or Intel's Quartus Prime IDE.
