Group/Division

With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA's metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers. The Broadband Plasma Division (BBP) provides market-leading patterned wafer optical inspection systems for leading-edge IC manufacturing. Logic, foundry, and memory customers depend on BBP products to detect yield-critical defects for process debug and excursion monitoring at advanced process nodes. BBP flagship products include the 29xx and 39xx series which leverage Broadband Plasma technology to capture a wide range of defects with ultimate sensitivity at the optical inspection speeds needed for inline defect monitoring.

The strategic technology team in BBP is looking for a research scientist to perform feasibility study for advancing next generation inspection instruments. The group is searching for a research scientist with expertise in chemistry, material science, nano particles, nanotechnology, biosensing and/or polymer synthesis to conduct research to push the inspection sensitivity. The individual will drive the early-stage development focusing on research and quantification of novel materials. He/she should have a proven track record in conducting design of experiments in chemical, material science, and/or engineering fields with the goal to interpret the effectiveness and the fundamental limits of new approaches. The individual will routinely work on prototypes, use data/analysis to quantify findings, and drive closure/conclusions. Furthermore, the research scientist will work with experts in different fields, thus effective communication to relay findings clearly to people with various background is critical for success.

Responsibility


  • Drive early stage material development. Conduct research and perform structural, physical, chemical, and molecular analysis for material commonly used for advanced integrated devices


  • Conduct design of experiments to validate hypothesis and to characterize the performance using both empirical and analytical methods


  • Perform surface characterization using microscopy, spectroscopy, XPS, AFM, SEM, and TEM


  • Collaborate with experts in optics, systems, mechanics, materials, and chemistry fields


  • Acts as a domain specialist in surface modification/surface chemistry and assist in solution qualification and recommendation


  • Document procedures and research findings. Communicate results to technology experts in different fields


Qualification


  • Ph.D in chemistry, material science, chemical engineering, physical chemistry or related field


  • 3+ year of experience in R&D or equivalent


  • Experience in fluorescent nanoparticle/dyes synthesis and characterization


  • Experience in polymer/organics/inorganics synthesis and characterization


  • Established proven track record in conducting effective design of experiments to quantify performance and hypothesis validation


  • Knowledge of surface chemistry and demonstrated the ability to characterize surface using microscopy, spectroscopy, AFM, XPS, SEM, and TEM.


  • Demonstrated the ability to break down high-level goal to concise scientific problems/projects


  • Proven ability to solve problems combining theoretical and experimental methods


  • Excellent oral/written communication and enjoy working in a fast paced, multi-disciplinary environment


Plus:


  • Extensive hands-on experience in developing some of the following: fluorochrome, organic dyes, quantum dots, carbon dots, and other fluorescent nano particles


  • Experience/knowledge of self-assembly material synthesis methods


  • Proven project management skill including time-line proposal and project tracking


Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate (Academic) + work experience of 3 years , Master's Level Degree + work experience of 6 years , Bachelor's Level Degree + work experience of 6 years
