I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

Meredith is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to join its Paid Products team and to manage the MyLife product line including iOS & Android apps as well as its underlying services.

As an experienced technologist and natural leader, you will represent the Paid Products engineering team in collaborations with product owners, project managers, QA testers, software engineers and systems engineers. You will guide and inform technical strategy and socialize decisions across the digital division. Your passion involves software development and leadership, with a focus on leading edge technology around mobile development, APIs, and microservices. You have broad, deep knowledge of modern full stack and mobile development techniques and trends, especially with frameworks we use like React. You will coach our talented, committed full stack and mobile developers, to perform at the peak of their abilities.

II. Essential Job Functions

Weight % Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results

20% Architecture: Participate in technical design of new and expanding systems and infrastructure. Collaborate with other teams on mobile development, service definitions, and interoperability.

20% Scope and timeline negotiation: Work with product owners and project managers within an agile methodology to clearly define business priorities, timelines and minimum viable products.

20% Process design and management: Scrutinize and evolve the software-development life cycle. Keep abreast of trends in automation, continuous integration and tooling, and enhance processes to improve the developer and QA tester experiences.

20% Staff management: Regularly meet with direct reports to discuss job performance and goals. Effectively prioritize and delegate tasks. Conduct annual performance reviews.

20% Innovation: Stay close and hands-on with coding activity. Keep abreast of technology trends and tools. Encourage and foster a climate of innovation within the engineering team.


III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.


  • High School Diploma

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant industry experience.


  • 6+ years of hands-on engineering experience

  • 1+ years of managing direct reports or functioning in a team leadership role

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Deeply opinionated, but with the ability to debate and compromise.

  • Outstanding management skills and natural leadership qualities.

  • Outstanding communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to discern business requirements, and confidently make good decisions on the fly.

  • Sharp focus on leveraging technology to improve businesses value propositions.

  • Thorough understanding of modern development techniques, trends, and tools.

  • Familiarity with continuous integration and automation via tools like CircleCI and GitHub Actions.

  • Experience interacting with Headless frameworks and REST APIs.

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services.

  • Experience working within an agile methodology, using JIRA or similar project management tools.
