The Control and Autonomous Systems Engineering Group is focused on the synthesis of dynamic and complex control and autonomous systems, from concept to realization, for a wide variety of prototypes. Job Description


A highly skilled technician with all the qualifications of a Senior Technician who, in addition, demonstrates ingenuity in design, construction, operation or maintenance of highly technical and complicated apparatus. An exceptionally high degree of responsibility and ingenuity is expected of employees in this classification. Must have one or more of the following aptitudes: (a) Flair for improving scientific devices (b) Unusual ingenuity at trouble shooting (c) Demonstrated ability at field engineering or test engineering (d) Ability to to do effective and important laboratory instructional work with students.

A sound, working knowledge of the following is also required:


  • Construction, assembly, and revision of prototype electronics such as printed circuit boards, wire harnesses, and cables including fine surface mount technology and thru-hole soldering, chassis and equipment rack wiring, and wire wrap.

  • NASA soldering certification is a plus

  • Light machining and 3D printing

  • Testing and test support of electronic assemblies on the bench, while installed in environmental test chambers, and while deployed to the field. This includes a good working knowledge of the following test equipment: oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, emulators, and digital multi-meters.

  • Ability to read and understand schematics for the purpose of assembly

    • Knowledge of Mentor Graphics DxDesigner or similar schematic entry tools is a plus



  • Ability to create and update documentation such as engineering change orders, component records, bills of material, test procedures and rework instructions accurately using Microsoft Office tools including Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint

    • Knowledge of Visio a plus.



  • Creation and operation of LabVIEW software is highly desirable but not strictly required.

    • Rudimentary knowledge of other software programming languages such as Python is a plus



Requirements: Graduation from a two year day technical school or its equivalent, and a minimum of ten years of applicable hands-on experience are required. A sound, basic knowledge of his/her particular field is important for this classification. Strong interest in learning new skills, timely, methodical and accurate work habits, and very good written and verbal communication skills are required.
