As a Shipping/Receiving Coordinator 1, you'll conduct activities to support manufacturing efforts to meet internal and external customer expectations for the accurate and timely processing of shipments. You will use various transaction systems and PC-based office applications to meet reliability goals. You'll also serve as a liaison between Manufacturing and all the distribution sites across the company and customer direct shipments.


What You'll Do

  • Assist in coordinating the flow of materials from Production or Warehouse to certain Manufacturing facilities, Herman Miller regions, and customers, as required by site.
  • Assist in setting priorities on shipping dock activities and in coordinating the supporting hi-lo and driver's activities.
  • Assume responsibility for adherence to all corporate safety guidelines (hi-lo), safety glasses, and pedestrians.
  • Coordinate the delivery of all parts from the dock area to Production areas and internal Warehousing facilities.
  • Expedite the disposition and shipping of all material returns and reusable packaging or skids, as required by site.
  • Keep the Work Team Leader completely informed and perform other tasks as assigned, such as loading trailers with outgoing product using a hi-lo.
  • Fill out documentation for all trailers as needed, including bills of lading, packing lists, and any other documentation needed in special circumstances.
  • Organize and maintain an efficient and effective flow of materials in and out of the staging area (on dock).
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring on-time shipments and 100% reliability by determining the sequence the trucks are loaded utilizing computer systems.
  • Take responsibility for the receipt and delivery of material for the Tool Crib, Maintenance Departments, and Food Service (responsibility may differ by site).
  • Verify and accurately process all shipments/receipts of parts from suppliers and all incoming freight with 100% accuracy to ensure accurate payments to suppliers through voucher on receipt for internal or external customers.

You might be just who we're looking for if you have . . .
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of manufacturing experience.
  • Competency in math skills such as adding and subtracting, as well as the ability to keep and maintain accurate records.
  • The ability to read, understand, communicate, and interpret written and verbal instructions, work documentation, policies, practices, etc., in the English language. You must also have legible penmanship.
  • A demonstrated ability to effectively use the office automation, communication, software, and tools currently being used in the Herman Miller office environment, including systems utilized for a vast number of transactions.
  • The ability to schedule and keep track of many simultaneous projects, anticipate problems, and develop solutions.
  • The ability to work in a collaborative/participative environment as an integral part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Reliability, creativity, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure and changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated attention to housekeeping and safety.
  • A hi-lo license. If you do not currently have a license, you must pass all required tests within 30 days of accepting this position.
  • A commitment to team success through reliable attendance and working overtime with little or no notice.
  • The ability to deal with people professionally, tactfully, and diplomatically.
  • The ability to perform all essential job functions of the position with or without accommodations.
