Server Support Specialist at Alliance Health in Raleigh, North Carolina

Job Description:

The Server Specialist provides maintenance, security, and support for the Alliance Microsoft Windows Server and VMWare environments.  The position will also collaborate with other team members in the Network Services group on Network and Security planning and execution and provide support to Alliance users.

This position will allow the successful candidate to work a schedule which will include both onsite as well as remote work certain days of the week as approved by their supervisor.

 

Responsibilities & Duties

Provide operational and technical support to computer server equipment and applications


  • Conduct maintenance, modification, enhancements and to meet system and network service level objectives.

  • Assist with technical expertise in planning, developing and supporting high quality and highly functional virtual infrastructure hardware, operating systems, VMs, cloud and Linux/Unix environments/systems.

  • Install and configure new hardware and software and maintain system configurations and backups.

  • Assist with technical expertise in planning, developing and supporting high quality and highly functional virtual infrastructure hardware, operating systems, VMs, cloud and Linux/Unix environments/systems.

  • Monitor system performance to maintain reliable, secure and high performing systems in a multi-site Windows Active Directory environment that consists of Windows 2012 R2/2016 servers, Exchange and SharePoint.

  • Monitor system performance to maintain reliable, secure and high performing systems in a multi-site Windows Active Directory environment that consists of Windows 2012 R2/2016 servers, Exchange and SharePoint.

  • Provide Change Management support by documenting, developing, testing, and implementing systems changes, upgrades and patches.

  • Monitors and maintains application services, installation and configuration of application software to support new and existing services. 

  • Assist as needed in troubleshooting hardware problems related to PCs, terminals, networking infrastructure and peripherals.

Assist with disaster recovery


  • Assist in the development and maintenance of disaster recovery strategies and participate in Disaster Recovery test scenarios.

Provide helpdesk support


  • Monitor helpdesk ticket system and email for support requests and provide updates.

  • Provides support as needed during non-business hours.

Maintain documentation


  • Create and maintain system documentation for updates made to the infrastructure environment.

Collaborate with team members


  • Collaborate with team members to resolve problems and implement new initiatives.

Minimum Education & Experience required

Associate’s degree or graduation from a vocation/technical program in an information technology related field and three or more years of progressively responsible work experience in an information systems department, preferably in a healthcare or managed care environment which provided the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills required to perform the duties of the position.

Preferred Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in an information technology related field and three or more years of progressively responsible work experience in an information systems department and network security, preferably in healthcare or managed care.

Preferred Certifications -  Microsoft Certified Systems Associate (MCSA)

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


  • Considerable knowledge of IT security, personal computer technology, networking, telecommunication, related peripheral equipment, database management systems, and other IT related support systems

  • Knowledge of the principles and methods used in obtaining maximum utilization of computing and networking equipment

  • Knowledge of backup management and reporting

  • Knowledge of disaster recovery strategies

  • Knowledge of and skilled in server monitoring

  • Skilled in the installation of servers, operating systems, network software, and applications software

  • Strong verbal and communication skills

  • Critical thinking skills

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload

  • Ability to consult on issues and requests from clients that required the implementation or creation of a custom solution

  • Ability to evaluate, design, and maintain complex technical systems

  • Ability to organize and follow complex and/or detailed technical procedures

  • Ability to manage projects of medium to high complexity, develop project plans, manage milestones, and drive projects forward

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Ability to analyze problems and solve them

  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions and work under pressure

  • Attention to detail and precision, solid work ethics concerning meeting deadlines and reliability

Salary

$61,945.18 to $106,637.02
