Job Description:

This position provides Payroll Management duties for the Payroll Department, company-wide, ensuring that all processes are executed appropriately and in a timely manner. The position also supports and works closely with Human Resource regarding benefits as well as with other managers to streamline and develop processes that ensure seamless and efficient payroll processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Oversee the Payroll Department from timesheets through W2's for 500+ employees

  • Timesheet review of data entry of weekly & biweekly timesheets

  • Perform payroll calculations and processing using accounting software when necessary

  • Maintain complete payroll documentation for paper & electronic files

  • Remit and report payroll taxes on a monthly and quarterly basis in a multi-state, multi-company environment, reconciling to the general ledger

  • Willing to perform a variety of other accounting duties as assigned

  • Assist and provide support to other subsidiary companies

  • Instrumental in the implementation of new systems

MANAGERIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Hire, train and supervise payroll employees.

  • Make policy and procedural decisions when required that guarantee compliance for the company.

  • Meets payroll operational standards by contributing information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production and productivity; resolving problems; identifying system improvements.

  • Strive to provide dependable, accurate and timely payments and payment information to employees and other parties inside and outside of the organization.

  • Balances payroll accounts by auditing information; identifying and resolving discrepancies; initiating journal entries.

  • Determines payroll liabilities by entering federal and state income and social security tax information, 401k transfer and direct deposits, wage assignments and garnishments.

  • Fulfills wage garnishment requirements by making sure all forms are completed; adjusting payroll records, documenting and transmitting withholdings.

  • Remits tax payments by collecting and verifying data; preparing federal, state, and local tax reports, and W2 statements; initiating payment.

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies as well as maintaining current CPP Certification.

  • Monitor all Union Contracts provisions that will be impacting payroll such as yearly rate changes, shift differentials, etc.

  • Maintain the SCA and DBA Wage Determinations and verify that employees are being paid accurately for the jobs they are working

  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.

  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

EMPLOYMENT HOURS

Hours are Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with an unpaid one-hour lunch, excluding holidays.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


  • High school diploma, or equivalent, required.

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) required.

  • Ten years' experience in payroll department with increasing responsibilities.

  • Familiarity with payroll software, Viewpoint and Databasics preferred.

  • Must have knowledge of payroll labor laws and multi-state payroll taxes and concepts.

  • Must understand SCA, CBA and Davis Bacon prevailing wages.

  • Knowledge and experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel & Outlook).

  • Knowledge of ACH banking, internet use, and spreadsheets.

  • Should have a professional appearance, be energetic, and take pride in work.
