Senior Data Scientist, Offering and Bundling at Shipt, Inc. in San Francisco, California

Job Description:

At Shipt, we are transforming the grocery shopping experience and giving time back to consumers. Shipt shoppers handpick fresh groceries and household essentials, then deliver them to your door in as little as one hour.

Shipt is building an on-demand delivery platform to help people get the things they need from stores they love. Since the beginning, we’ve relied on data to drive decision-making and power our fulfillment system. In this role, you’ll help build the next generation of processes and algorithms to drive our platform to new heights.

You will be building systems that leverage cutting-edge technology and advanced mathematics to build best-in-class models to optimize and improve our core Offering and Bundling. Our platform is a multi-sided marketplace where retailers, manufacturers, customers, and shoppers work together to achieve outcomes through coordination and orchestration by a series of systems and models that ensure their success and form our core advantage. 

We are seeking candidates who are excited about wearing multiple hats and working cross-functionally with engineering and product to bring real solutions to market, iterating from imperfect MVP through rapid experimentation and development. This is a position heavy on building systems but also requires some consultative work as you become Shipt’s expert in the space.

Responsibilities 

• Develop a deep understanding of Shipt’s business model and leverage your experience to align our problems with industry best solutions.




• Develop models to predict orders most likely to clear our system, and through experimentation, learn more about optimal characteristics and trends. 




• Leverage statistical inference to understand how we decide to offer orders to our shoppers, such as the difficulty of a specific order or the challenge level of an apartment delivery in a specific neighborhood. 




• Help build out integrated Machine Learning systems.

Requirements 

• 3+ years of experience with machine learning, optimization, economic, or statistical modeling.




• Experience with common Machine Learning algorithms & frameworks.




• Proficiency with SQL as well as one high-level language, such as Python or R.




• Strong expertise in deploying machine learning applications in production.




• Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, or proven quantitative knowledge at that level.

Nice-to-Haves 

• Familiarity with cloud computing platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure. 




• Familiarity with containerization technology such as Docker or Kubernetes.  




• Familiarity with software engineering practices and technologies like system design, unit testing, and version control. 




• Familiarity with streaming systems such as Kafka.




• Familiarity with on-demand and multi-sided marketplaces.  




• Familiarity with combinatorial optimization




• Ph.D. with relevant applied research is a plus and would be considered as part of years of experience.
