The ASSISTANT FRONT OFFICE MANAGER is responsible in assisting the Director of Front Office at the Surf & Sand Resort in overseeing the staff and operations of the Front Desk, PBX, Bell, Valet, and Concierge departments to ensure efficient and professional service to all resort guests.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, include but not limited to:


  • To assist the Front Office management team in exceeding guest expectations and employee performance in the following areas: Front Desk, Valet, Bell, Concierge, and PBX.

  • To understand and respond to all guest needs and requests in a timely and professional manner.

  • To hire, train, schedule, support, review, and discipline employees in the Front Office area and to ensure that all staff members maintain the highest possible levels of employee morale and department productivity.

  • To monitor overtime and manage labor to ensure that payroll costs stay within budgetary guidelines.

  • To provide gracious and sincere customer service to all arriving and departing hotel guests.

  • To ensure the proper handling of guest check-ins and check-outs by Front Desk, including welcoming guests, establishing credit, accurately completing all necessary paperwork, explaining to guests all aspects of their package format or group arrangements, and ensuring guest satisfaction with rooms and other arrangements.

  • To follow all specified procedures in administering the affairs of the Concierge desk, including shipping, directions, dinner reservations, tickets, gift certificates, and amenities.

  • To follow all specified procedures in administering the affairs of the Bell/Valet department, including coordination of bag pull, transportation, parking vehicles, rooming guests, amenity deliveries, upselling, property explanation.

JOB KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATIONAL LEVEL: Four-year college degree preferred. Must have a minimum of two years experience in a similar position. Excellent communication skills and computer knowledge required. Familiar with OSHA, SB198, local Department of Health regulations, and relevant current laws governing handling of hazardous substances. Valid California driver's license required. Proof of personal automobile insurance coverage required.

SKILLS AND APTITUDES: Detail oriented. Highly organized and efficient. High level of customer service. Knowledgeable in trouble shooting and problem solving. Diplomatic, trustworthy and reliable. Requires little supervision.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works indoors/outdoors throughout shift. Indoor environment consists of a temperature controlled, clean, and well-lit office. May be exposed to weather conditions in unsheltered outdoor areas. Bi-level structures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Stands and walks short distances throughout shift. Bends, stoops and reaches to perform routine job tasks. Heavy telephone usage and typing.
