Job Description:

Michael Baker International is seeking an experienced and motivated Project Manager (PM III) to join our team. The successful candidate will be a senior level experienced project manager and exceptional communicator who will support the management of a portfolio of complex projects executed by multi-disciplinary teams across various geographic locations. This position will be an integral member of the Emergency Management and Response office in Alexandria, Virginia office. As part of this group, the project manager will support contracts with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and may be asked to support other contracts as needs arise.

Responsibilities include:


  • Provides communication and outreach leadership, guidance, support, and content development on various FEMA projects, such as Production and Technical Services, Community Engagement and Risk Communication, Hazard Mitigation Technical Assistance Program etc.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of multi-disciplinary staff to ensure project delivery per schedule, on budget, and within scope parameters
  • Works with team members and clients to prepare scopes, schedules, budgets, assumptions, and constraints for projects
  • Upon approval of individual projects, provide oversight for the development of project plans for efficient and successful delivery across the full project lifecycle
  • Oversees adherence to project plans and established business processes, including quality and project management and standards
  • Participate in client meetings and follow through on assigned action items directly with clients and communities
  • Provides guidance to team members related to successful delivery across the full project lifecycle, including developing forecasts and estimates
  • Leverages earn value management principles to develop insights for decision making
  • Proactively strategizes and anticipates risks and issues
  • Coordinate with other managers to balance workload and staffing needs
  • Personnel management including team building, staff mentorship, and professional development
  • Confers with team members to provide advice, counsel, and resolve problems
  • Cultivate and manage client relationships and guide the application of services to best serve the interests of the client and Michael Baker International
  • Support business development and proposal efforts to win new work
  • Accountable for compliance with contract requirements, including quality and security requirements
  • Expertly manage the change management process for all projects.

Other essential skills include creative problem-solving, strong communication and written skills, organizational skills, financial project management skills, strong production management capabilities, and a proven understanding of project management methodologies. The ideal candidate will have an aptitude for leadership, a strong sense of ownership, and natural communication skills.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Minimum of 15 years+ of experience in the coordination and management of non-IT projects
  • Four-year Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Planning, Business, Communications, or related discipline
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance, U.S. Citizenship required due to contract requirements
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, proactive communicator and problem-solver
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ownership and accountability for work
  • Capability to work in a dynamic environment, including a demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide array of individuals from various backgrounds, including engineers; planners; GIS professionals; federal, tribal, and state government officials; and the public
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage scope, schedule, and budget requirements, working with multi-disciplinary teams under limited supervision
  • Strong track record of overseeing successful project delivery with a drive for quality product and financial excellence
  • Demonstrated supervisor and mentoring skills
  • Must be able to build rapport and establish positive relationships with existing and prospective Michael Baker International clients to ensure client-focused performance
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and SharePoint
  • Solid work ethic and have the drive to be a leader in the company and in the professional community

PREFERRED

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM)
  • Experience with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and FEMA's Risk Mapping Assessment and Planning (MAP) Program
  • Ability to travel periodically, as needed (less than 20% and once travel restrictions are lifted)
  • Traditional and agile project management proficiency
  • Industry involvement (e.g. Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM), Project Management Institute (PMI), etc.)
