Qualifications:

Graduate from approved Surgical Tech Program.

Experience: Two (2) years previous experience as a Surgical Tech

Current BLS

Current CST (Certified Surgical Texh) from a Commision on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) Tech in Surgery (NCCT) or OR Tech Certification required.


Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY: The Surgical Technician Lead will be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide assistance during surgical procedures performed in the department. The Surgery Technician Lead is experienced in all aspects of aseptic technique, setting up the required equipment and sterile supplies as needed for their assigned cases, pulling cases as needed, and breaking down cases at the end of the procedure. He/she is knowledgeable regarding instrumentation, equipment and supply needs for all types of surgical procedures. The Surgery Technician Lead performs delegated duties consistent with his/her scope of practice and functions within the philosophy and overall plan of care delivery. The Surgical Technician Lead may rotate to areas other than his/her assigned service area/s, and will perform only those duties for which he/she has demonstrated competency. The Surgical Technician Lead has additional responsibilities of orienting/onboarding new employees and overseeing shift operations with schedules, assignments and coordination of resources.Under the supervision of the OR staff, assists in the delivery of patient care during the interoperative phase according to the policies and procedures of the facility. May be called upon to help with the LDRP department in case of emergency staffing needs and the LDRP staff may be called on to help the main OR.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

* Coordinates surgeon resources preferences, supplies and instrumentation pertaining to service line specialties.

* Partners with service line RNs to facilitate and understand needs for upcoming cases.

* Point of contact and main liaison with sterile processing for instrumentation needs.

* Serves as lead preceptor for Surgical Technicians within the department and coordinates training for all surgical technicians.

* Prepares the operating room by reviewing case cart with needed resources for accuracy and completeness provide appropriate patient care.

* May perform or coordinate the primary preceptor role in the training of students and peers.

* Performs pre-operative procedures such as selection and placement of surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment.

* Assists surgeon and designated assistants in invasive procedures, passing instruments and supplies and anticipating the needs of the surgical team.

* Scrubs to assist the surgeon in the completion of surgical procedures by demonstrating a working knowledge of surgical instrumentation and equipment needed for a variety of procedures.

* Anticipates the needs of the surgeon, passing instruments and providing sterile items in an efficient manner, as directed by the surgeon Practices sharps safety techniques (safety zone, safe passing)

* Performs appropriate counts prior to the operation and before incision is closed
