Purpose of Your Job Position
The primary purpose of your job position is to plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the Activity Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, our established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the Executive Director and/or Arbor Administrator, to assure that an on-going program of activities is designed to meet, in accordance with the comprehensive assessment, the interests and the physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident. This job descriptions encompasses the responsibilities for the IL, AL and MC activities director.

Job Specific Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and implement the activity programs for the designated property. May be specifically for a Memory Care, Assisted Living or Independent Living
Assume the authority, responsibility, and accountability of directing all volunteers and ensure volunteers are screened and supervised according to Avamere policy.
Develop and distribute monthly activities calendar and newsletter for residents and family members. Post activities calendar in public area.
Keep residents and staff abreast of any changes in the activities calendar and encourage residents throughout the month to participate in activities program
Coordinate and schedule outside vendors and presenters and ensure that their material is appropriate; and the form of presenting is appropriate
Supervise and/or Assist with the seasonal decorations throughout the property and ensure all decorations meet Avamere standards and Executive Director approval.
Participate in community event planning with marketing staff.
Perform administrative requirements, such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc., and submitting such to the Executive Director or others as required.
Involve residents and families in planning Community activity programs
Arrange transportation for events, activities, and outings. May assist the concierge with doctors' appointments when necessary.
Ensure proper transportation for resident activities. Including driving Avamere vehicles and participating in required orientation and on-going training for safe driving
Ensure resident council is being completed according to policy and encourage all residents to participate in resident council. Assist resident council as needed.
Develop a plan of correction for activity deficiencies noted during survey inspections in conjunction with Executive Director
Interview residents or family members to obtain activity suggestions.
Review all resident care plans on a quarterly basis for accuracy regarding the activities department and to recognize the ability and needs of the residents
Make routine visits to residents and provide one-on-one visits to those residents who may not participate in regular activities
Monitor staff to assure that they are following established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies
Report known or suspected incidents of fraud, waste and/or abuse to the Executive Director.
Assist in preparing and planning the activity department's budget to be submitted to the Executive Director for review, recommendations, and approval
Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information. Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information
Ensure that all activity personnel are knowledgeable of the resident's rights and responsibilities, including the right of refusal
Always Promote the company in a positive manner
Adhere to all standards in employee handbook (cell phones, computer use, dress code, etc.)
Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the Community
Determine departmental staffing requirements necessary to meet the activity department's needs, and assign a sufficient number of activity personnel
Schedule department work hours (including vacation and holiday schedules), personnel, work assignments, etc., to expedite work.
Counsel/discipline activity personnel as requested or as necessary
Other duties as deemed necessary and appropriate, or as may be directed by the Administrator
Personnel Functions
Assist in the recruitment, interviewing, and selection of personnel for the activity department
Determine departmental staffing requirements necessary to meet the activity department's needs, and assign a sufficient number of activity personnel
Schedule department work hours (including vacation and holiday schedules), personnel, work assignments, etc., to expedite work
Delegate administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability to other activity personnel as deemed necessary to perform their assigned duties and responsibilities
Counsel/discipline activity personnel as requested or as necessary
Specific Requirements
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Must be knowledgeable of regulations governing activity services in assisted living and memory care facilities.
Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently
Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing activity services. Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.
Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
Assist in performing all other duties assigned
As part of being an Ovation team member you may be recorded or photographed as part of marketing campaigns and quality assurance. You will be asked to consent to this as part of your new hire packet
Physical and Sensory Requirements
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this Community, which include a medical and physical examination. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times, hostile people within the Community.
Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 35 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations
Education
Must possess, as a minimum, high school diploma. Higher education experience preferred but not necessary
Experience
Must have, as a minimum, two (2) years' experience in a social or recreation program or have similar amount of experience working in a health care setting
Must have service-related experience
