Job Summary:

The Head of Pre-Clinical Research will have strategic, operational and budget responsibility for all activities undertaken within the critical area of Research & Development. The incumbent will be responsible for the overall strategy for two functional areas; Immunology & Serology. This will include responsibility for overseeing the design initiation and management of programs across Seqirus' Research & Development projects/product pipeline. S/he will work collaboratively with relevant Seqirus functions including, Clinical R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Program & Project Management, Commercial Development and Business Development. The incumbent will focus on developing broad Research strategies with a particular focus on measuring responses to new and existing products.

Major Accountabilities:


  • The incumbent will lead a group of Directors, Investigators, Scientists and Scientific Associates and will plan, resource and execute tasks within their remit.S/he will recruit, develop, coach and motivate staff and will be responsible for adequate qualification and training within the department and support scientific education of his/her staff.S/he will develop strategies for Research and Company short, medium- and long-term goals for new innovative product development and scientific support of existing products/initiatives. A particular focus is on the development of sections for Clinical filings that relate to existing products or products in late stage development.

  • The Head of Pre-Clinical Research will oversee the development of their functional areas study designs and objectives, delegate tasks and projects and plan and monitor adherence to budgets consistent with agreed overall project objectives and timelines with a focus on operationalizing strategies. Manage budget and workforce in these areas with close interaction with Regulatory and Clinical Functions.

  • Manages external network of KOLs and key scientific contacts for broad Research/Company goals.

  • Function as a key leader of the Seqirus Research group. Acts as a key contact for upper management and other function in the execution of the defined Research/Company agenda.

  • Guiding groups for which the role is responsible to maintain high quality standards, HSE compliance, etc. for the strengthening of the positive culture and working environment. Acts as key liason, or directs actions of key liaison, with regulatory agencies on important clinical serology/assay issues.

Minimum Requirements:


  • An advanced degree (PhD, MD) with specialization in Immunology or Serology


  • PhD or equivalent with >12 year experience, prior industry experience required.


  • Key knowledge of vaccine development with a particular emphasis on pre-clinical vaccine design aspects

  • In-depth knowledge of Serology, Clinical Serology or Immunology with high level expertise in any area is required

  • Demonstrated and extensive management skills

  • Publication track record

  • Critical thinking skills and troubleshooting skills

  • Experience developing multiple vaccine products

  • Demonstrated knowledge of GLP standards and statistical approaches related to Clinical Serology

  • Deep, demonstrated knowledge of influenza and in-depth understanding of the global influenza system (GISRS)

  • Existing relationships within the global influenza systems (GISRS)

  • Ability to guide individuals to independently design, execute, analyze, and interpret data in a timely manner with some guidance and supervision.

  • Ability to generate high quality, high level written reports, to prepare and present data at cross-functional internal meetings, and to demonstrate ownership, understanding, and accountability of assigned projects.

  • Demonstrated ability in managing budgets and head count resources
