The Nemours Cardiac Center is seeking a Quality and Safety Coordinator, to support our Cardiac center in Wilmington Delaware.
The quality and safety coordinator will collaborate with nursing and medical leaders at the unit or service line level to coordinate and lead patient safety and quality improvement work, leveraging CI principles. Cooperates with the Delaware Valley Quality and Safety leadership, supporting and aligning with institutional priorities and regulatory requirements that impact patient outcomes.
Essential Functions - Acts as champion and content expert for patient safety and quality improvement at the unit/service line level
Rounds daily for purposes of communication, and identification of safety issues
Engages staff in proposals for improving patient safety and quality of care
Works with local leaders to prioritize improvement initiatives
Provides education of staff in patient safety concepts, general and project-related training in Continuous Improvement
Works in conjunction with Quality and Safety teams to support or design data collection plans for patient safety, quality improvement and regulatory requirements at the unit or service line level
Supports development of appropriate measures and designs data collection methods
Coordinates the collection of measurement data, including from medical record reviews
Constructs and populates appropriate data bases to support analysis, trend and display data
Provides regular reports of safety and quality metrics to local leaders, clinicians and staff
Independently or in concert with Quality and Safety teams , utilizes appropriate quality improvement and patient safety tools and methods related to opportunities for improvement identified within the unit or service line
Applies patient safety and quality improvement experience and knowledge in design of initiatives
Leads or actively supports established processes such as cause analysis or local continuous improvement initiatives
Provides coaching and consultation to staff in making behavioral changes
Tracks and communicates progress on initiatives to all stakeholders in a timely fashion
In collaboration with the Quality and Safety teams and unit/service line leaders supports compliance with organizational accreditation and regulatory requirements
Maintains knowledge of applicable standards
Promotes survey readiness through education of staff and appropriate record maintenance
Assumes responsibility for scheduling and coordination of patient safety and CI related meetings at the unit or service line level
Develops agendas in collaboration with other local leaders
Notifies participants
Keeps or delegates minutes and follows up on action items

Education, Training and Experience
Bachelor's degree in health care field: nursing, respiratory therapy, pharmacy
Knowledge of patient safety and quality improvement concepts and methods, including data collection and analysis preferred and/or
Minimum three years experience in pediatric inpatient setting. Cardiac and/or ICU preferred
High level of accountability and initiative
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Team leadership and presentation skills
Proficient with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
2. Licenses, Registrations or Certification
Completion of National Patient Safety Foundation Online Patient Safety curriculum within 1 year and attainment of Certification as Certified Professional in Patient Safety within 2 years
