Best Buy’s Digital and Technology team is seeking two Senior Engineering Managers to join the Augmented Intelligence teams - Search and Voice Assistant. These roles will perform code and architectural review of the product their team is responsible for. They will be expected to mentor team members to be better technically at their craft and to adapt to organizational challenges, by applying their past experiences and new learning as they advance their own craft. They are responsible for the career management and development of the engineers on their team and are passionate about enabling their team members to grow and advance their career. They design solutions that leverage deep machine learned models to deliver amazing experiences for our customers.

Team Overview
There are multiple positions available in the Augmented Intelligence portfolio:
The first position is with the Search Product team. This team provides the search technology and deep learned models to make it easy for customers to find products on BestBuy.com, mobile apps, retail apps, exclusive brands, and internal/external facing applications.
The second position is with the Voice Assistant team. This team ensures that Best Buy is well-positioned to meet the needs of customers specifically related to the emerging voice channel, as consumers continue to adopt and leverage voice as both an engagement channel with brands, and voice as a capability within products and services.

Key Responsibilities


  • Recruits and builds one or more teams

  • Leads those teams responsible for a large capability, or multiple smaller capabilities

  • Ensures the quality and integrity of the SDLC for their teams and identifies opportunities for improvement in how the team works through usage and adoption of recommended tools and standards

  • Is responsible for defining their teams’ objectives and the key results they will deliver in a partnership with their team

  • Participate in production support along with their team

  • Active participant in planning and performs code and architecture reviews of the product their teams are responsible for

  • Mentors team members to be better technically at their craft, as well as organizational challenges and skills, using their past experiences and new information gained via learning as their craft advances

  • Determines hiring needs that align with the portfolio investment strategy and helps by leading recruiting and interviews when required

  • Conducts regular 1:1s with all team members and manages performance for entire team

  • Ensures sufficient documentation exists for the products their team is responsible for, and the documentation is maintained

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5 or more years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree OR equivalent relevant professional experience

  • 1 or more years’ experience leading engineers to include mentoring, coaching, work direction, task assignment, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of relevant professional software engineering/development experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical discipline

  • 4 or more years of experience as software developer using standard web technologies

  • 4 or more years of experience as software developer using Java, Kotlin, JavaScript, Node, or other web related languages

  • Experience with full stack of modern web technologies and frameworks (React, Node, Java, Kotlin, Spring etc.)

  • Proficient in multiple no-sql data storage capabilities such as Cassandra, Solr, and MongoDB

  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, etc.)

  • Exposure in the delivery of applications and services leveraging containers (such as Kubernetes and AWS EKS) and/or serverless computing solutions (such as Google Cloud Functions and AWS Lambdas)

  • Expertise in the integration of applications leveraging REST, GraphQL, or message-based integrations using queuing technologies such as RabbitMQ and Kafka.

  • Knowledge of and working experience with open-source software as well as networks, security, firewalls, load balancers, DNS, and other infrastructure components

  • Experience in test driven development, continuous integration and deployment practices
