Position Summary

Leads the pressroom and bindery functions, including scheduling of all production and performing all prepress functions. Ensures deadlines are met throughout the entire publishing process according to quality standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Leads the Employees of the pressroom and bindery. Provides input for Employee performance assessment as required.
• Performs prepress duties which include consultation and execution of quality control and preflight of digital files going to press (includes trouble-shooting, trapping, imposition, proofing and plate generation, maintenance of all related equipment, supplies, diagnostics and calibration).
• Schedules projects to ensure project due dates are met with least work-in-process time.
• Trains, schedules, and leads staff as required. Ensures staff complies with section policies and procedures, including daily work schedules and routines. Reports issues to supervisor.
• Maintains prepress schedule and production when needed to meet deadlines for press area.
• Ensures all production materials are ordered and available for continuous production operations.
• Operates all bindery and print equipment as necessary.
• Oversees and troubleshoots mechanical and equipment problems and secures external maintenance and repair services as needed. Ensures all machinery in unit is properly maintained.
• Under direction of the supervisor, ensures all quality standards are met.
• Studies technological developments and recommends improvements accordingly. Assists management in evaluating proposed equipment upgrades and changes.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required. Heidelberg Project Software training or equivalent experience required. Five years experience in the publishing or bindery field required. Experience leading project work and assigning and scheduling work of others preferred. Working knowledge of word processing software required. Working knowledge of project planning software required. Familiarity with the Macintosh and Windows operating systems preferred.
