Ultra Labs is our advanced concept and emerging technologies group. Our team is a global network of diverse thinkers and experts in areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, cloud computing, and advanced data visualization.

Ultra Labs is seeking to hire a Program Manager, Advanced Technology Center. This individual will build, develop, and lead a team of engineers and other professionals that will deliver advanced technologies through various programs. The Program Manager will be responsible for resource planning and managing the life cycle of employment for their team, while also understanding the advanced technology skills markets.

  • Contribute towards the development of the Advanced Technologies strategy

  • Build and manage a team that can deliver against the strategic imperatives for Advanced Technologies

  • Determine hiring needs based on the requirements of current and future project and capability needs, working in partnership with Talent Acquisition to ensure we have a pipeline of deployable personnel and capability that meet our requirements.

  • Lead, sponsor and mentor your various teams of engineers. Provide both technical and managerial support, guidance and advice where needed at any level

  • Understand the advanced technology skills markets such that we can capitalize on these changes, either by upskilling the current team or onboarding new colleagues where gaps have been identified

  • Develop and scope functional roles to meet requirements

  • Manage resource loading across multi-disciplinary projects throughout the team

  • Partner with project members by reviewing tasks, setting task prioritization, identifying barriers, and actively working with colleagues to remove them.

  • Provide clear and concise project status reports to senior leaders and other internal stakeholders.

  • Manage project issues and risks with appropriate escalation to internal leadership and external stakeholders as appropriate

  • Managetechnical issueswith escalations to ensuretimelyresolution and customersatisfaction.

  • Manageprogrambudgets

  • Ensure that employees are competent to carry out their role by providing training and coaching, setting development plans, and providing timely feedback.

  • Execute performance evaluation by bringing management stakeholders together to provide performance and development feedback

Required Qualifications:


  • 5+ years of experience in front-line management of technical staff, with experience: hiring/termination, performance management, motivating/developing, and handling crucial conversations

  • 5+ years of experience in leading projects within a remote and matrix environment across multiple locations

  • 2+ years of experience managing project budgets

  • 2+ years of experience using a project planning tool

  • 2+ years of experience working in an agile environment

  • Holds a security clearance or has the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance. Security clearances are granted to U.S. citizens.

  • Extensive experience managing large or multiple teams of engineers and being responsible for delivering large and complex projects

  • Able to identify and nurture existing and new talent

  • Willing to recognize complex problems and develop solutions

  • Skilled in maintaining positive relations with others, both inside and outside the organization, and obtaining cooperation

  • Have a planning/forward thinking approach with attention to detail with exceptional planning and organizational skills including task management and the ability to prioritize own workload and the workload of others

  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and frequent change with a flexible and cooperative approach

  • Ability to act on own initiative with excellent communication and negotiation skills

  • Ability to manage within allocated budgets and be able to plan and forecast based on business priorities.

  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze complex situations; responsible and accountable for own decision making.

  • Able to understand academic and semi academic funding streams and hopefully have worked with those organizations before
