Position Summary


SUMMARY

Wyman Gordon Pennsylvania, a division of Precision Castparts Corporation (PCC), is a manufacturing leader of Flash Welded and Cold Rolled near net shaped rings for the Aerospace Gas Turbine Industry. We are currently seeking a Material Science/Metallurgist Intern to support both our Mountaintop and Tru-Form facility. Primary residence will be located in the Mountaintop facility. The Material Science/Metallurgist intern will support Quality, Manufacturing, and the Metallurgical Laboratory. Establish controls on raw material purchases and for laboratory testing to customer and industry requirements. Direct involvement in Process Control Welding Initiative in regards to establishing controls and parameters in concert with Engineering and Manufacturing Supervision. The alloys involved are primarily Ni and Co Base alloys with some Titanium and Iron Base aerospace alloys

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Support Quality and Manufacturing processes.

Assist with reviewing specifications for raw material purchases.

Assist with manufacturing Process Control.

Assist Metallurgist with communication to suppliers to improve Metallurgical and quality performance.

Assist with determining root cause for product test failures and customer issues.

Help maintain specification data base for product testing requirements

Assist with conducting internal and external process audits, as required.

Obtain and analyze test data to support capability analysis and process improvement initiatives. Documents results of investigations and studies.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES

Role has no direct supervisory responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION

BS in Metallurgical/Materials Engineering/Chemical Engineering

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this position the employee is occasionally required to walk and stand for long periods while monitoring operations, using hands to fell or touch and reach with the arms and hands and occasionally to stoop or kneel. Much time will be spent sitting in an office environment requiring frequent computer use. Employee may be required to occasionally lift up to 25# and the employee's vision must meet industry standards for acuity and color. Reasonable accommodation may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing their duty the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather conditions, grinding dust, and, dye penetrant and micro etching compounds. The company requires and provides appropriate safety equipment.
