I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

InStyle.com is seeking a full-time Associate Photo Editor with an exceptional eye for photography and design, talent for photo research, and a keen ability to work on fast turnaround requests. The Associate Photo Editor will work closely with the Visuals Editor in daily tasks, which includes curating article art, designing leads for the site, and licensing stock imagery. They will need to be organized, savvy with spreadsheets and have good time management skills. The Associate Photo Editor will collaborate with design leads to reinforce and strengthen our brand identity and ensure that we offer the highest quality visuals. The candidate will be required to embrace creative challenges, work in a fast-paced environment, and be as creative as they are operationally strong. This position also assists with administrative duties directed by the Visuals Editor.

You will:


  • Lead photo research and licensing stock imagery for online articles

  • Crop, edit, retouch and color correct images

  • Be responsible for making original photo Illustrations and brand identity design for lead art, online franchises, and verticals in Photoshop

  • Have a competent understanding of image copyright usage and licensing

  • Assist in shoot production and postproduction for online feature articles

  • Art direct and conceptualize illustrations or leads designs on site

  • Occasionally photograph still life and portraits for InStyle.com articles

  • A passion for photography and a keen sense of what visuals work best in digital and social platforms. Experience photographing is not necessary, but a major plus.

  • Excellent taste. You're experienced at making visual content look modern and beautiful.

  • Vision. You like think outside the box and will bring amazing ideas - both creative and editorial - to the projects you work on.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to work quickly on tight deadlines, communicate with everyone on the needs of the photo team, strong sense of photography and design and high functioning knowledge of Photoshop.

II. Essential Job Functions


  • Manage photo research

  • Pull and/or creating leads for daily stories.

  • Communicate and maintain a clear vision brand vision through art used on site.

  • License images

  • Assist the Visuals Editor in long term projects, sponsored and native.

  • Assist the Visuals Editor in shoot production

  • Brainstorm brand appropriate designs for franchises and projects

  • Photographing small projects for the team and site

III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Photography or a related field is preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of 1-2 years' experience

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Highly creative, with Photoshop.

  • Must have excellent knowledge image licensing, agencies, and an understanding of copyright.

  • Must be results oriented, focusing on creatively illustrating articles and meeting deadlines.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively; verbally, in writing, and in person.

  • Must have the ability to work well and collaborate with multiple departments.

  • Must have the ability to make quick decisions confidently.

  • Must be able to multitask and manage your own workload.

  • Must have previous experience in online photo-editing.
