The Opportunity:

Responsible for supporting strategic plan & marketing plan development by knowing our customers throughextensive data & statistical analysis.This position enables fact-based decision making for many internal clients including brand, retail, catalog, web, digital, magazine, and book wholesale. Project work ranges from building statistical models to select customers for direct-to-consumer marketing campaigns to measurement of marketing campaign effectiveness to ad hoc investigations of customer behavior.Development, maintenance, and backend analysis of predictive models used to select "best" customers (buyers and non-buyers) for catalog mailings, e-mail solicitations, magazine prospecting, retail mailings, etc. Design, execute, and analyze tests and experiments. Work with business partners (channel marketing, brand marketing, inventory forecasting, etc.) on projects.Communication of analysis results in a timely and accurate manner through written and verbal presentations to business partners and senior management. Generation and distribution of standard and ad-hoc reports, including house file reporting. Ad-hoc analysis to support the business with a goal of making smart business decisions.

What Your Impact Will Be:


  • (50%) Interface with internal clients to understand analytical business needs & drive future marketing plan development. Clients generally include the marketing team (brand, retail, catalog, web, magazine, & book wholesale). Develop & execute plans to measure the effectiveness of marketing efforts to support fact-based decision-making. When applicable, design statistical tests which includes sampling methodology and performing t-tests. Perform in-depth analyses leveraging SAS & the data warehouse. Present results, including a financial P&L analysis, to marketing team along with independent thoughts on business implications. Acts as sounding-board for creation of analysis path to address business questions. Helps synthesize results into story for senior-level marketers.

  • (25%) Build statistical models to select 'best' customers for direct-to-consumer marketing efforts. Efforts include catalogs, retail direct mail, magazine direct mail, selective package inserts, digital, etc.

  • (25%) Perform ad hoc analyses to drive business decisions and/or business plan development. Examples include leveraging house file reporting metrics to report on business performance and project future revenue expectations.


What We're Looking For:


  • 5+ years of data analysis experience in a direct marketing or multi-channel marketing environment preferred.

  • Must be able to produce highly accurate & dependable results; manage multiple projects simultaneously; possess excellent written & verbal communication skills; demonstrate thought leadership; meet strict deadlines

  • Extensive experience with SAS programming or other statistical software, SQL programming, MS Office experience (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint in particular), knowledgeable of relational databases, knowledge and training in sophisticated statistical analysis techniques (t-test, confidence intervals, logistic regression, OLS regression, etc.) strong knowledge of relational database design and SQL programming.
