PRIMARY PURPOSEProvides pastoral support to patients, families, and staff in the hospital setting to ensure the religious, spiritual, emotional, and relational needs are provided for according to the goals and mission of Parkland.MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONSEducation- Must have a Bachelor's degree.Experience- None.Certification/Registration/Licensure- None.Skills or Special Abilities- Must be able to demonstrate effective communication abilities, both verbal and written.- Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/ patient valued behaviors.- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of Parklands decedent care and advance directives procedures within two months of employment.- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in meeting age related and handicapped patient's needs.Responsibilities1. Provides pastoral support to patients, families, and staff in the hospital setting to ensure the religious, spiritual, emotional, and relational needs are met. Documents all visits in medical chart including interdisciplinary plan of care as needed.2. Responds promptly to deaths, codes and Level I traumas to assess spiritual needs of the patients and families and provide appropriate interventions and care.3. Participates fully in seminars and supervision offered in the Clinical Pastoral Education program and completes all requirements of the program.4. Provides education about advance directives, assists patients/families to execute these documents and documents these visits in the medical chart.5. Provides pastoral care to family and significant others at the time of death, assists family to understand what will happen to the body of their loved one, and provides grief literature to family members.6. Identifies ways to improve processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to appropriate department team or supervisor and assists with implementing new processes and monitoring results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.7. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the Pastoral Care area. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.8. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field of Pastoral Care by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.Job Accountabilities1. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
