Job Description:

SUMMARY:

This individual is responsible for managing projects for the development of training curricula, materials, and programs to meet specific training needs as well as working directly with directors, managers, and members of other Division teams. Works with the team’s Director to set schedules, budgets, and priorities and to ensure all product deadlines are met and instructional quality is maintained. Performance will be measured by instructional quality (as reflected in customer product evaluations and instructor’s feedback); on-time delivery of all projects and feedback from stakeholders and project team members. This individual manages projects and project team members as resourced. There are no direct reports assigned to this individual, so regular and ongoing feedback on project team members are expected to be shared with team members’ functional managers.

 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

•    Build, execute and support project plans including updating and revising existing courses, and – when applicable - developing new products including job aids, online reference tools such as videos and microlearning, course supplements, and full courses in all modalities

•    Document and manage risk for on time delivery 

•    Consistently communicate project status to key stakeholders

•    Continually explore ways to improve the effectiveness of learning products and make recommendations to the Director, Learning Development

•    In cooperation with the Director, Learning Development, and other Managers in Learning Development, oversee individual product adherence to:

•    MC standards, including MC Style Guide, 508c compliance standards, and content management system best practices

•    External standards as applicable, such as government professional competencies and bodies of knowledge, college credit requirements, equivalency standards for established curricula, and requirements for continuing professional education credits

•    Accepted industry standards for instructional systems design and adult learning principles 

•    Effectively use tools to create plans and track work, progress, and actual costs

•    Make recommendations for improving process and workflow to support the design and development of quality learning products.

•    Work on multiple projects simultaneously

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

•    Knowledge of instructional design methods and training techniques, including curriculum design principles and blended learning strategies and the ability to impart this knowledge to instructional design staff

•    Knowledge of project management techniques, including balancing competing demands, MS Project schedules, minimizing scope creep, and establishing project thresholds and the ability to use this knowledge in the successful completion of projects

•    Proven ability to manage multi-demand and multi-priority projects simultaneously

•    Highly developed people management skills, able to manage and motivate teams to achieve business and personal goals

•    Ability to think creatively, solve problems, and conduct effective meetings

•    Ability to make effective and timely decisions

•    Ability to support and complete projects with sound planning and follow-through

•    Ability to write clearly and effectively

•    Open collaborative style: ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision

•    Comfortable working in an environment where ideas are shared and challenged

•    Strong internal and external customer orientation

•    Quality focus and attention to detail

•    Computer skills, including Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, SharePoint, and Outlook

 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

•    Project management experience required

•    BA required, MA preferred with specialization in instructional design, adult education, or a related field

•    Experience designing/developing competency-based, student-centered training for adults required

•    2 years of managing people and teams preferred
