Job Description:

The VP, Head of Medical Affairs is responsible for integrating scientific expertise and knowledge to ensure successful implementation of the Company's emerging product portfolio. The VP serves as an innovative driver and executor of Medical Affairs transformation strategies to support our pipeline and provides medical insight into the medical affairs and commercialization plans to shape upcoming programs. The VP develops and executes the medical plan, provides medical insight into brand strategic plans, and provides strategic direction on medical communications, medical information etc. The Head of Medical Affairs plays a key leadership role within the R&D Leadership Team and also sits on the Commercial Leadership team; the VP is an enterprise wide thinker beyond the Med Affairs function to support overall business needs. Cross-functional collaboration in this role is critical and the VP serves as a proven Medical leader who can partner closely with colleagues in the field and in-house, including Medical Science Liaisons, Clinical Development, Biology, Regulatory, Commercial, and other key functions. This role reports to the CMO.

Primary Responsibilities Include:


  • Lead the development and execution of the Medical Affairs strategy and operational plan for all programs.

  • Lead the Medical Affairs organization in support of the delivery of programs to facilitate product access and improve the lives of patients, including educational/promotional information, clinical support, and reimbursement across multiple disease states and therapeutic areas.

  • Responsible for ensuring the creation and distribution of the appropriate medical information and scientific communications regarding Sarepta products to the different communities we serve (HCPs, KOLs, patient community, etc.).

  • Work in close collaboration with the Commercial team to engage our Key Opinions Leaders through both scientific and medical expertise and in supporting effective payer/reimbursement relations and outcomes research.

  • Provide support for patient advocacy activities in close partnership with commercial and clinical development functions.

  • Provide Medical expertise to the Commercial organization as needed to assist in the development and execution of compliant commercial activities.

  • Give frequent oral and written presentations on the clinical aspects of the diseases under study, the PMO platform technology, and Sarepta's clinical programs.

  • Support pre- and post-launch efforts in close connection with our Commercial Officer.

  • Lead the development and alignment of product life cycle management strategy and tactics to define and prioritize future investment.

  • Ensure the scientific integrity of sponsored and supported research, disease and product information, and relationships with healthcare providers and patient advocacy groups.

  • Provide oversight for strategic medical education, grants and investigator initiated studies.

Desired Education and Skills:


  • Ph.D. required, MD or equivalent preferred with Board certification.

  • Minimum 8-10 years in pharmaceutical industry with focus on clinical drug development and/or Medical Affairs with a minimum 7 years of Medical Affairs management experience in a matrixed organization leading a post commercial medical team(s).

  • Demonstrated success in fostering effective relationships with KOLs, developing effective medical communications, guiding product strategy and life cycle management, and managing/training colleagues.

  • Experience with commercialization of innovative and/or rare disease therapies.

  • Ability to execute and follow-through to completion and documentation.

  • Proven experience developing effective relationships with key opinion leaders and external partners.

  • Working knowledge of all stages of clinical development, regulatory requirements, epidemiology, biostatistics, and health economics.

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment where results are achieved through influence and the incorporation of multiple points of view.

  • Excellent organizational skills, sufficient to multi-task in an extremely fast-paced environment with changing priorities.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to influence across multiple functions.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 30%.
