We have an exciting opportunity to join our Health Information Management team as a Sr. Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist. The Sr. CDI Specialist works in a remote setting to offer services to strengthen and improve health care operations resulting in stronger financial returns and a healthier health care system. The Sr. CDI Specialist is a professional Registered Nurse with a broad clinical knowledge base and understanding of DRG documentation requirements who works under the supervision of the CDI Manager and in collaboration with the CDI Educator. Responsibilities include secondary clinical chart reviews, resolution of DRG discrepancies, and educating clinical staff regarding opportunities for diagnosis clarification, principal diagnosis accuracy and improvement of capture of additional comorbid conditions to include HACs and focused PSI diagnoses. The Sr. CDI Specialist will conduct concurrent and retrospective medical record review for defined patient populations to identify opportunities to improve accuracy of the medical record. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Performs reviews remotely on various patients and units prior to final billing step. Performs retrospective reviews on specific accounts, DRGs, or patient types. Act as Project Lead during engagements as required by management/practice. Completes reviews of targeted patient populations to identify missed opportunities and accurate selection of principle diagnosis. Acts as liaison between the Coding Department and the Clinical Documentation Integrity staff to reconcile discrepancies in DRG assignment. Acts as CDI representative on HAC/PSI committee, following up on identified HACs and PSIs. Reports these findings monthly at CDI staff meetings. Communicates findings of secondary reviews to respective Clinical Documentation staff for follow up. Collaborates with CDI educator when specified educational needs are identified. Documents and tracks review data. Shares this information with staff at monthly CDI team meeting. QUALIFICATIONS 5-10 years of experience as a Registered Nurse CDI certified with 5+ years of experience working as a CDI Specialist required Coding experience; Coding certifications are a plus 5 years of clinical experience in Med/Surg acute care required, experience in ICU preferred Strong clinical knowledge in PEPPER data, revenue integrity software and data analysis
