The Maintenance and Reliability Manager reports to the Plant Manager with hourly employees reporting directly to this position.
JOB DIMENSIONS
The Maintenance & Reliability Manager is responsible for managing the maintenance organization for the Torrance plant consisting of mechanics and electrical technicians.
Provides the maintenance link to the plant for budgeting/goal alignment, ensures work process compliance and use of most effective technology within the empowered team framework at the Torrance plant.
Develops, plans and schedules mechanical integrity and PPM activities that are required to support the plant. Manages the day to day unplanned events by priority scheduling. This individual understands the plant / department strategy, balancing budget with business objectives.
This individual must be comfortable managing a small work group and external contractors. Position requires working with Arkema corporate software systems as well as corporate purchasing agents and outside suppliers
KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Mechanical Integrity (50%)
Reviews production activity logs, submitted work orders and planned inspections to prioritize maintenance activities for the group. Determines if plans are required for service requests and coordinates resources. Adjusts planned order inspections using historical data from inspection results
Manages plant mechanical integrity program to insure compliance with Arkema and regulatory requirements. Tracks compliance of completion of PM tasks and advises the Plant Leadership of other issues impacting the effectiveness of the PM program
Parts and Inventory (20%)
Manages and orders new parts, replacement parts, spare parts inventories and integrity of inspection documentation in equipment files. Ensures critical production equipment is identified and replacement repair parts and strategies are in place
Plan and manage stock take inventories as required by corporate auditing analyst.
General Management (20%)
Manages maintenance activities for the Torrance site with guidance and input from Plant Manager, Operations Manager, Activity Coordinator and plant supply chain functions.
Provides technical expertise on projects and assist our Improvement Specialist for certain technical elements..
Provides technical expertise on troubleshooting failures, repairs, and evaluating equipment operating condition. When needed may personally undertake repairs of equipment. Will be part of an on-call maintenance rotation
Creates an environment with all group members to foster team and individual empowerment.
HES (10%)
Demonstrates leadership for the department by supporting corporate and plant safety initiatives.
CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT
Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents.
High school diploma/GED and minimum 10 years of experience as an industrial mechanic. A four year engineering degree may substitute for some years of experience.
Experience in a commercial chemical production facility a significant plus.
Completion of a craft apprenticeship very desirable.
DEMONSTRATED COMPETENCIES
Requires significant knowledge of pipes, fittings, construction layout and industry code standards. Must be able to read and interpret drawings, schematics and maintenance manuals.
Requires significant knowledge of pumps, rotating equipment, compressed air and pressure vessels. Experience with operation and repair of steam boilers and thermal oxidizers a plus.
Must be knowledgeable on industry standard safety standards: Safe Work Permits, Lock Out Tag Out, Confined Space Entry, Hot Work, De-energizing of circuits and flow.
Must have people skills and experience in coaching and developing others.
Experience as a turnaround coordinator in a chemical process plant would be beneficial.
