Duties, Responsibilities & Other
Technical lead on projects - retail, fitout, commercial office, self-storage, central plant, new construction, renovations, feasibility studies, energy savings projects, LEED projects, private and government projects.
Proficient technical knowledge of HVAC and plumbing systems: RTUs, DX splits, heat pumps, VRF, VAV AHUs, DOAS units, chilled water, hot water systems, condenser water systems, HVAC controls, rough order of magnitude cost estimating, building codes and standards
Good written and verbal communication skills
Manage and grow client base
Develop project scopes of work and proposals, review contracts, manage subconsultants
Guide junior engineers and check work, execute higher level mechanical engineering design on projects (approximately 30% of project work) - Masterspec specifications editing, mechanical system selection and layout, drawing general and keyed notes
Coordinate with KCI internal disciplines (e.g. structural, electrical) and external disciplines
Manage project cost budgets and scopes of work, be accountable for financial goals, develop and be accountable for meeting project schedules, participate in mechanical group work load planning, review/track project invoicing.
Use of Carrier HAP, Bluebeam, Excel, Word, Smartsheets, cloud-based OneDrive file sharing, majority of projects use Revit
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required. Master's degree preferred.
Minimum of 2 - 4 years of design experience required.
Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.
Performance Expectations
Complete Annual Individual Training Program
Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence
Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements
Complete other duties as required/assigned
Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target(80-85% typical)
Attend bi-weekly(or more frequently as necessary) meetings with project team on all projects/tasks
Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
Consult and coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants as required
Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
Compare field data to base plan
Conduct site visits and gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes and photographs as needed
Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications and cost estimates for review and approval
Prepare preliminary concept designs and submit for approval
Read and interpret technical documents needed for performance of job
Review and approve shop drawings
