About the Position

VHB is seeking a Creative Design Manager to lead our Regional Creative Design Team, providing design direction on our pursuits and client deliverables. We are looking for an inspired, energetic go-getter and strategic thinker who relishes the thrill of positioning VHB as best-in-class related to Transportation, Real Estate, Institutional, Energy, Federal, and State and Local Government markets.

A key member of the Regional Marketing team, and reporting into the Regional Marketing Director, this high-visibility role manages the day-to-day work of our Creative Design Team responsible for preparing complex, proactive, and high-profile pursuit materials, presentations, internal or external visibility communications, and/or client and employee engagement deliverables.

Responsibilities

High-visibility role that requires a dynamic leader comfortable working closely with office/regional leaders, as well as marketing and communications professionals across the firm as a key contributor to initiatives.


  • Takes an elevated leadership and management role in design efforts through all phases of conceptual development and final production of materials, which may include proposals, presentations, internal design and communication deliverables, and external visibility projects.

  • Manages the work of a team responsible for creative designs, carrying out supervisory and training responsibilities, and the planning, assigning, and directing of work. Schedules and prioritizes the day-to-day team workload and incoming assignments of varying complexity.

  • Facilitates and coaches to produce materials that communicate the strategic vision identified for a given pursuit, communication, or campaign, in alignment with the organization's brand. Serves as a VHB brand ambassador, ensuring team completes all marketing deliverables in compliance with corporate branding standards, formats, and template styles. Meets all deadlines, budgets, and quality expectations while working collaboratively and communicatively. Provides quality control and design feedback for design communications, pursuits, and deliverables within team.

  • Partners with marketing colleagues, project managers, and business leaders to understand and define scope and audience, messaging, and vision. Conceptualize, advise, and present on the best approach to successfully achieve goals and deliver the best outcome within budget and schedule for both VHB and client deliverables.

  • Works closely with Regional Marketing Director and Regional Marketing Managers to drive departmental growth including develop, train, contribute to, and share best practices that advance and improve processes and team understanding

  • Participates in team meetings and training with marketing, communication, and design peers.

  • Stays current on use of all relevant software. Proactively participates in professional development.

  • May work directly with clients, including meetings and communications. Coordinates and manages interactions with third parties (e.g., print vendors, photographers, advertisers).

  • Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and company policies and procedures.

Qualifications


  • Requires 8-10 years of graphic design experience (preferably in A/E/C environment) and at least 5 years of supervisory or leadership experience with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Graphic Design or related discipline.

  • Strong understanding of the A/E/C industry (e.g., markets, services).

  • Experience with digital marketing strategies.

  • Advanced knowledge of and extensive experience using Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite programs (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, InDesign, Photoshop). Working knowledge of HTML5/CSS3 preferred.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong understanding of photography, video, animation, email and web design, and social media.

  • Understanding use of 3D renderings, visualizations, and GIS mapping. Excellent leadership, project management, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Self-motivated and self-disciplined. Experience mentoring designers. Demonstrated initiative and ability to work collaboratively and efficiently. Ability to quickly and accurately edit and reformat documents while under time constraints.

  • Ability to read and follow technical specifications (e.g., advertising, video, web, social media).

  • Excellent understanding of construction of files and ability to create templates.

  • Involvement in industry affiliations preferred (i.e., AIGA).
