Bonus Offerings:

0 to 3 years of experience = $1,000

3 to 5 years of experience = $2,500

5 to 7 years of experience = $5,000

7 to 10 years of experience = $7,500

10+ years of experience = $10,000

The bonus program may be discontinued without notice, at any time. Officers who have been separated from the Authority for less than 12 months are not eligible for the signing bonus.

 Essential Day-to-Day Activities:

• Performs law enforcement duties to ensure airport security in Airfield Operations Area, remote parking lots and extended jurisdictions of airport property.

• Patrols airports campus in vehicles or on foot. Checks doors and windows and inspects security doors, gates, and other areas.

• Reports dangerous or defective streets, sidewalks, traffic lights or other hazards.

• Investigates unattended bags and other suspicious circumstances.

• Responds to calls for assistance, complaints, suspicious activity, disputes, and loud and disruptive behavior.

• Responds to TSA screening staff and makes determinations whether to detain or charge suspicious persons. Prepares non-transferable item reports.

• Investigates traffic accidents, issues traffic citations, and directs traffic. Participates in emergency operation activities. Operates radar equipment to apprehend speeders and slow down traffic. Apprehends and processes criminal suspects.

• Performs investigations of accidents and incidents. Makes arrests and processes criminal suspects. Presents findings in court if necessary.

• Works with RDU Airport Fire-Rescue and Emergency Medical Technicians to provide medical care or crowd control services to sick or injured patients. Provides a chain of custody if a body needs to be removed from RDU Airport.

• Prepares records and incident reports.

• Provides customer service for passengers and vendors. Provides information, gives directions, and assists stranded motorists.

• Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience

Education: High School diploma or equivalency

Experience: 1 to 3 years related experience

Required Licenses or Certifications

Certified as a Law Enforcement Officer by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission

 

NOTE: Non-qualifying experience will not be considered such as:




    • Corrections Officer

    • Detention Officer

    • Jailer

    • Park Ranger (Unless NC BLET Certified) 

    • Probation Officer

    • Security Officer

Hiring Range:

Law Enforcement Officer - Inexperienced Hiring Salary $47,666.75 - $48,381.75 per year


Law Enforcement Officer - Lateral Entry Hiring Salary: $49,107.47.16 - $64,251.42

(Note: Officers are eligible for Merit Increases, Shift Differential/Overtime Pay, Compete and Non-Compete Career Progression Compensation, with the maximum earning potential of $79, 078.92 for Law Enforcement Officer Positions)

Ride-Along Program:

The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority Law Enforcement Department is now offering a Ride-Along Program to its applicants. This program allows potential candidates to accompany patrol officers while on duty. The program is an effort to provide a broad scope of police work done at the Raleigh-Durham Airport.  The ride-along is a four-hour block of time during which the RDU Police Officer will share a high-level overview of the department and answer any job-related questions the applicant may want addressed prior to formally sitting for the NPOST exam.
