WHAT TO EXPECT

As an innovation leader, we look for ambitious, forward thinking, open-minded and well-rounded individuals to join our global team. Located in our Rochester Hills office, you will be responsible for developing, design and testing electronic controls for automotive electric pumps and motors.


  • You will be responsible for all aspects of hardware design, including requirements gathering, concept development, component selection, schematic design, circuit board layout, product integration testing, and manufacturing readiness preparation.

  • You will also work with the engineering management staff to develop global design strategy for control boards and assist in the selection of component suppliers and act a technical subject expert for control board design for the corporation.

Key responsibilities:


  • Implement and simulate digital, analog and power electronics circuits using modern tools and techniques

  • Build, troubleshoot, analyze and test digital, analog and power electronics circuits in a lab setting

  • Design and test micro-controller based systems

  • Develop reusable and modular design platforms

  • Understand circuit schematics and electronic component datasheets

  • Define and manage project development cost and project task scheduling

  • Define and manage product unit cost

  • Provide input on product design and strategy

  • Work with manufacturers and internal/external customers to build and refine products

  • Capable of building breadboards, prototypes as well as debug boards and test setups

  • Work closely with the product design team to support control board design as well as support functional testing

POSITION DIMENSIONS (SCOPE)

  • This position reports to Gates Technical Director for Water Pumps and is responsible for developing, testing and supporting electronic controls for automotive electric pumps and motors. Works with plant Engineering, Purchasing, Quality Control and Process team to make sure electric control board work properly with the electric pumps and motors manufactured at plants. Response for DV test for electric control board and also the cost for electric control board.

CONTACTS

  • External contact with supplier to ensure electric control board meet Gates requirement and standards. Internal contact with global engineering team and plant team like Quality Engineer, Process Engineer, Prototype Technician, Buyer etc. frequently.








ABOUT YOU

Minimum Requirements:


  • 4-Year Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

  • 10 years of experience in electronic or power electronics product development with PCB fabrication and assembly.

  • PCBA vendor interface experience.

  • Experience with CAE tools including: schematic capture, PCB layout, analog/digital simulation and integrated development environments.

  • Understand electronic principles, control theory, and their application.

  • Excellent problem solving skills.

  • Strong hands on skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.


  • Travel to supplier facilities and plant and global facilities is required.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.

Preferred:


  • Experience designing controls for BLDC motors.

  • Automotive product development experience.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • International company experience.

  • Firmware development experience.

  • Experience with CAN/LIN bus communication.

  • Knowledge and/or interest in e-bike motors control strategies a plus.
