WHAT TO EXPECT
As an innovation leader, we look for ambitious, forward thinking, open-minded and well-rounded individuals to join our global team. Located in our Rochester Hills office, you will provide product application engineering services to assigned strategic OEM customers for electric coolant pumps (EWP) and electric motor products.
You will work with customer and development team to bring EWP from concept to production. Manage customer contact and Gates product development process.
Key responsibilities:
Manage customer open issues with a weekly meeting.
Define and manage product validation, DVP & R and test reporting.
Create and maintain product DFMEA with updates as needed.
Communicate customer requirements to development team and ensure that the product meets these requirements.
Guide designers to create component and assembly drawings with GD&T.
Create bill of materials (BOM) .
Design stack up analysis.
Manage BOM with Gates Change Request system so all revision levels of the drawings, models and BOM are correct.
Support manufacturing in creation of PFMEA and any engineering related manufacturing issues.
Apply problem solving techniques (8D, 5 Why, Ishikawa diagrams, etc.) to resolve engineering issues.
Support Clarizen project development process.
Respect project timing.
Develop strong engineering relationships with customer engineers within assigned project(s).
Supplier coordination for testing and prototypes.
Support RFQ activities.
QUALITY RELATED FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSILBITES
Adhere to IATF 16949, ISO 14001, HSE policy, VDA 6, GBLP/s, GPS, Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma and any other industry standards in all activities
POSITION DIMENSIONS
Reports to the Engineering Manager Electric Water Pumps North America. Participates in weekly department meetings and reports on project status and issues. Highlight key project issues such as development activities or manufacturing issues to the Product Engineering Manager for appropriate action. Works closely together with Sales and Business development to define and to meet the relevant customer needs. Establish product validation requirements that satisfy customer and / or internal specifications. Works with the Test Development Engineer to create the DVP & R and ensure that the testing is completed according to project timing.
CONTACTS
External: Makes face-to-face contact with assigned existing and prospective customer OEM engineers on a regular basis. Must be in tune to conditions and changes within the OEM market that requires development of information sources among customers, distributors, industrial consumers, original equipment manufacturers (and their suppliers), and component manufacturers. Utilizes all necessary internal support groups; Product marketing and field sales groups. Product Development, Advertising, Quality Management, Information Systems, Customer Quality Service, Sales coordination and manufacturing plants.

ABOUT YOU
Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree from an ABET accredited university.
Minimum of 5-7 years of automotive industry experience in product design, development, testing and industrialization.
Familiarity with pump architecture, fluid flow, electrical devices and control board firmware development and application.
Travel is dictated by business conditions but usually will be calling on OEM engineers, prospects, or working with customer personnel approximately 30% of the time. Must be able to perform physical elements associated with the job, including inspecting our product in difficult locations, such as OEM labs, model shops or test sites as required to properly understand and service our OEM customers.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
