Job Description and Responsibilities:
Coherent, Inc., is headquartered in Santa Clara, California, United States, with other sites located in the US, Europe, and Asia. It was founded in 1966 by Eugene Watson as a spin-off from laser company Spectra-Physics.
The Plymouth, MI. facility is one of two Coherent sites dedicated to development of turn key laser based materials processing sub-systems and systems. The Plymouth facility designs and manufactures laser systems with Ultra Short Pulse, Fiber and CO2 based lasers for world-wide distribution. These systems perform materials process techniques from cleaning/marking, welding, and cutting for a broad array of customer products in several hi tech markets.
The candidate must be a team player and will be a key member of the business unit management team, reporting to the North American Senior Product Line Management. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Identify and capture business opportunities for Laser Marking and Automotive Welding
Qualify other new interesting business opportunities aligned with the core competencies of the technical business unit
Review/manage customer technical specifications, generate technical proposal documentation
Manage pricing strategies for selected end customers and markets
Manage forecasting for selected key accounts and market segments; ensure alignment between customers and manufacturing operations (sales & operations planning)
Develop "Go-To-Market" processes to support product introductions
Develop Technical marketing material representative of the business at technical conferences and tradeshows
Develop business plans, assesses market penetration, and product positioning to drive competitive advantage, revenue and market share
Control profitability of the product line(s)
Act as key customer technical and business interface throughout project execution
Advocate for the business unit in customer negotiations, identify change requests and assess scope impacts of customer requests
Perform regular customer visits and deliver technical capability briefings
Oversee aspects of product setup in life cycle management tools
Ensure cooperation across all business unit functions, sales, and marketing. Manage customer escalations and be the voice of the customer inside of the business unit
Requires broad industry knowledge and established industry relationships in the global laser marking market
Education and Work Experience:
Bachelors Degree preferred in science related field with 5+ years industrial experience in optics and/or optical systems and/or lasers
Or minimum of 10 years industrial experience in sales, product management, or business development with relevant experience in the laser processing equipment
Experience in Product management or business development in optical fabrication for aerospace and defense applications
Experience being a self-starter, and organizational skills to motivate a diverse set of Technical individuals to act as a well-aligned team in the pursuit of new business
Must have the ability to make compelling presentations for customers
Strong overall communications skills with hands on approach
In depth knowledge of key markets for laser marking tools in North American Markets
Demonstrated experience in planning, budgeting, developing business strategy and handling multiple projects
Travel up to 40% may be required
