Emergency Medicine Assistant Program Director

Arrowhead Regional Medical Center is currently seeking an Assistant Program Director to join our Emergency Medicine Residency Program. We are an ACGME approved 4-year residency Program with eight residents enrolled in each class (32 total). We also have an ACGME approved EMS fellowship within the department.

Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) is a 456-bed university-based teaching hospital that is home to 6 residency programs and 3 fellowships, all of which are ACGME accredited. We are located on a 70-acre campus in Colton, California which is about one-hour drive away from Los Angeles. We are the University-based hospital for the newly LCME approved medical school, California University of Science and Medicine (CUSM). Core faculty members of our program also have faculty appointments at CUSM.

Arrowhead Regional Medical Center Details:


  • Our hospital is an ACS recognized Level II trauma center with an annual ED census of around 90,000, including approximately 3,000 severely injured trauma patients each year.
  • Regional burn center, primary stroke center and behavioral health center located on campus.
  • Graduate Medical Education has been an integral part of this hospital for the past 70 years.
  • We have more than 40 outpatient specialty care services available. A comprehensive cardiothoracic program is due to open sometime this year.
  • The 6 current ACGME accredited residency programs are: Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, OB, Psychiatry, Surgery and the ACGME accredited fellowships: EMS, Maternal Fetal Medicine, and Pulmonary/Critical Care. Surgical Critical Care fellowship, neurology residency, and radiology residency programs are currently going through the ACGME initial accreditation process.

General Responsibilities and Requirements:

This position is responsible for assisting the Program Director with all aspects of the program administration, educational quality, and operations. In addition to the duties required of a "Core Faculty", APD will have additional responsibilities including (but not limited to)


  • Curriculum development
  • Recruitment
  • Evaluation of residents and faculty
  • Participation in various committees
  • Coordination with various organizations including medical schools. GME, rotation sites
  • Participation with remediation efforts/resident counseling
  • Orientation, social, wellness activities

Qualifications:

The successful candidate for Assistant Program Director must possess the requisite specialty expertise and competence in clinical care and teaching abilities, as well as documented educational and administrative abilities and experience in their field. Completion of fellowship training related to education (including SIM, Ultrasound, CC, Peds, or Education) strongly preferred. Core faculty experience at an ACGME accredited EM Residency program may be considered in lieu of fellowship training.

Qualifications Continued:


  • Leadership capabilities, including excellent communication and organizational skills. Current board certification by the ABEM or possess qualifications judged to be acceptable by the PD and GMEC
  • Must be able to be approved by the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center Graduate Medical Educational Committee (GMEC), appointed in good standing to the medical staff, hold an unrestricted medical license to practice in the state of CA, and obtain appropriate faculty appointment in the medical school
