Position Overview

This position will provide comprehensive expediting support to Proterra’s  Los Angeles, CA Site Sr. Materials Manager and other site leadership team members. You will be responsible and accountable for coordinating the material requirements planning in support of production schedules for existing and new product, and design changes.  This position will minimize raw material inventories while reducing purchasing costs, maximizing customer service and collaborating heavily with internal and external customer community, including vendors, manufacturing, engineering, service, quality control and quality assurance.

About the Role – You will:


  • Analyze forecast, actual demand, schedules and inventory and exercise judgement to influence manufacturing and buying decisions. Review new releases and engineering changes and attend design review and production meetings to provide all departments with material status in support of shop floor schedules.

  • Determine material requirements from the manufacturing production schedules, engineering, validation and process development studies. Manage inventory by determining and maintaining optimum quantity and cost levels.

  • Review and analyze weekly raw material, components and finished goods requirements to meet specific schedules.

  • Review, prioritize, schedule and expedite the delivery of material components to meet target dates and prevent stock shortages. Raise order fulfillment issues to management and key customers to propose mitigation strategies on a routine (daily/weekly) basis.

  • Review and modify purchase orders as needed for procurement through approved/qualified suppliers for raw materials and components.

  • Provide management control information by collecting, analyzing and summarizing data and trends. Produce material planning inventory reports and presentations as required. 

  • Develop reports that measure performance and drive change throughout the supply chain. Work with other business units on inventory and logistics planning of rollouts, inventory forecasting, yearly cost reduction initiatives, and continuous improvement of quality systems.

  • Manage excess and obsolete inventory costs while meeting business objectives. Resolve unclear packing slips, invoices and memorandums to insure prompt availability of material and timely payments to vendors.

  • Other duties as assigned by management.

  • This position will be part of the Greenville based Supply Chain team that supports Proterra’s Manufacturing and Engineering operations in Los Angeles, CA

  • You will report to the Site Sr. Materials Manager and collaborate with other Supply Chain team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and other manufacturing facility in Los Angeles, CA.

Your Experience Includes:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Engineering or equivalent experience

  • Minimum 1-3 years’ experience

  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications

  • Strong knowledge of ERP systems (Oracle is a plus)

  • Ability to apply knowledge of purchasing principles including but not limited to the following: research, analyze, negotiate and close various types of purchase efforts within the guidelines of good business and ethical practices.

  • Report writing and system configuration management expertise.

  • MBA or advanced degree

  • Experience within a manufacturing environment
