Job Description:

*$4,000 sign-on bonus for full-time employment (1-year commitment required)*
Our Alzheimer facility is seeking an energetic, organized individual to fill the role of Director of Nursing (DON). The DON is responsible for the direction of nursing services. The ideal candidate must possess excellent communicate skills to effectively lead staff and ensure that facility policies and procedures are followed while supervising direct resident care.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Provide "on call" services to nursing staff per schedule determined by Administrator.
While "on call" be available via telephone at all times and be able to report to facility within thirty (30) minutes if necessary.
Be knowledgeable regarding state/federal regulations and facility policies and procedures.
Maintain departmental compliance with state/federal regulations and facility policies and procedures.
Develop and implement nursing policies and procedures.
Participate in the quality management program and attend all meetings.
Formulate and implement improvement plans based off of review of facility Quality Indicators.
Recruitment, retention, and training of licensed nursing staff.
Provide an orientation period to all new licensed nursing staff and ensure competency prior to releasing them from orientation period.
Provide twelve (12) hours of educational in-service to department annually.
Provide each licensed nursing staff member with a performance evaluation ninety (90) days after hire and annually.
Identify areas of poor performance in licensed nursing staff and provide education and disciplinary action as necessary.
Develop monthly staffing schedules for licensed nursing staff to ensure that sufficient nursing personnel are on the premises to meet the needs of a resident for nursing services, that an R.N. is scheduled for at least eight(8) hours of each twenty-four (24) hour period, and that at least one nurse is present on premises and responsible for directing care to not more than sixty-four (64) residents.
Review employee time clock information for exceptions and unapproved overtime.
Initiate and document thorough investigations on all allegations of abuse.
Report all reportable incidents to required agencies within required time frame.
Participate in annual inspections of facility by the Department of Health Services.
Work with Administrator to develop a plan of correction for any deficiencies noted during survey.
Educate department staff and implement changes per the plan of correction.
Work the floor, providing direct care to residents, when other coverage cannot be provided.
Operate department within budget.
Notify Administrator if efficient care cannot be provided to residents within current budget.
Absorb job responsibilities of Administrator in their absence.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:

Medical terminology.
Safety rules, policies and procedures, infection prevention and control procedures.
Facility emergency/disaster response and evacuation procedures.
Resident Rights and identifying abuse and/or neglect.

Skill in:

Use and care of equipment, tools and materials used in resident care activities.
Working independently to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
Following and maintaining safety standards.
Following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions.
Operating a computer utilizing a variety of commonly used and specialized software applications.

Ability to:

Work more than eight (8) hours per day and/or forty (40) hours per week when required.
Work under high stress for extended period of times.
Maintain high workload while meeting required deadlines.
Identify when a situation cannot be handled and know when to ask for help.
Be sensitive to resident's families and respond in a professional manner.
Adjust communication style based off of audience such as physician's, associate personnel, licensed nursing staff, nursing assistants, residents, and visitors.
Know your scope of practice and always operate within it.
Assume charge of personnel and clients assigned to your area.
Adhere to the Arizona State Board of Nursing Rules and Nurse Practice Act.
Use diagnostic equipment.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associate personnel, residents and resident family members.
Read and write clearly.
Understand and follow, quickly and accurately, oral and written instructions.
Maintain confidentiality and work under pressure in a dynamic environment with changing demands and priorities.
Comply with facility policies and procedures.

WORK CONTACTS
Regular contacts with associate personnel, residents, resident family members and visitors.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to bear weight and lift 100 pounds or more.
Requires constant physical activities including standing, walking, lifting, bending, stooping, pulling, stretching, turning, grasping and reaching.
Visual acuity to determine the accuracy, thoroughness and quality of work assigned.
Aural acuity to receive detailed information through oral communication, often from persons with speech impairment.
Safety-sensitive position pursuant to A.R.S. 23-493.

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Must be a graduate of a state approved school of nursing.
Must have a current Arizona Nursing License or a current license from a compact license state.
Must hold a current Arizona State Board nursing license and must maintain license renewal in accordance with the standards of the State Board of Nursing.

SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENT(S)

Attend mandatory nursing meetings and continuing education classes that are designated mandatory.
Obtain/maintain Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Card at employee's expense.
Obtain/maintain CPR Certification.
Complete annual Tuberculosis Testing.
Complete required 12 hours of annual in-service training.
