Job Description:

NDT Channel Operator

Reports to: NDT Level Specialist

Location: Falconer, NY

Job Summary:


  • To satisfy the minimum qualification requirements for each NDT method and to demonstrate competency by passing written, hands-on, and visual testing per quality requirements.

  • To set-up and operate nondestructive test methods, as assigned, to applicable quality specifications.

  • To process, inspect and count parts per the relevant specifications and prescribed methods.

  • To prepare, complete and maintain all applicable records required.

  • To provide instructions during training and demonstrate individual and system conformance during internal and external audits.

Special Requirements: Candidates must pass an eye test to a Jaeger 1 in at least one eye and have enough color vision to meet the job requirements.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.

Machines, Equipment & Tools:

Magnetic Particle (MT):


  • Magnetizing & demagnetizing equipment.

  • Magnetic particle & suspension materials.

  • Black lights & white lights used for inspection of product.

  • Carts, tables, hand trucks & hoists to assist with product handling and storage.

  • Indicators, probes, meters & other measuring devices, as applicable.

  • Measuring instruments, PPE, optical aids and other tools as appropriate.


  • Electronic Eddy Current equipment.

  • Paper recorder.

  • Surface coils.

  • Demagnetizing equipment.

  • Traversing systems, some with computer interface.

Surface Temper Inspection (Nital Etch) (STI):


  • Timers.

  • Thermometers.

  • Stainless steel tanks.

Materials Processed: Various ferrous alloys, finished & unfinished parts.

Physical Demands:


  • Long periods of standing.

  • Working in subdued lighting.

  • Lifting and moving of product, some heavy.

  • Inspection under black light.

Requirements and Responsibilities:


  • Must be capable of running specifically designed machines for the manufacture of custom spherical products (balls) of various materials to high tolerances.


  • Materials to be machined from many exotic materials including tungsten carbide, cobalt, inconel, titanium, monel, stainless steel and many others using various compounds and media to obtain product geometry.


  • Setup, operate and running of multiple machines to meet product specifications including diameter, sphericity, uniformity, and micro finish.



  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.


  • Training for the company's specialty machines will be provided.


  • Training period takes place during 1st shift, (7 AM - 3:30 PM).


  • Hours of work may be susceptible to change after training period is completed.


  • Capable of using micrometers and specifically devoted gages a plus.
