Job Summary

The Product Engineer is accountable for successfully planning, driving, executing and reporting design requests according to customer inquiries for standard or existing designs rules.

Reporting to the Regional Manager Product Development and Engineering and in coordination with the Central Teams, The Product Engineer is responsible for engineering new product according to established design rules, up to detailed and final inspection drawings while maintaining the flexibility to adjust the design for specific cases

Further, this critical role will be responsible for competently managing tasks in the field of product engineering surrounding technology, customer, people, process, knowledge and operations management.

Main Responsibilities


  • Effective Technology Management


    • Short and long-term strategic goals are met through actively capturing regional market and industry needs and actively collaborating with development engineers, customers, sales, product management, industries and manufacturing as well as with the central teams

    • Use and maintain design tools for parametric design of bearing variants and design automation

    • Participate in and support in Product Development Projects with e.g. prototype drawings and industrializing project results; and share customer input data or specific requirements; explain a standard report on pertinent product line

    • Work with, develop and maintain generic 2D & 3D cad models for design verification and creation of finished drawings

    • Actively foster and apply technical solutions enabling Rotating Equipment Performance (REP) business model

    • Share improvement proposals for tools and proactively advise management on appropriate short and long term investment in technology, equipment and competence




  • Strong Customer and People Management Practices


    • Actively build and maintain a network and build sustainable relationships with internal customers, global and regional stakeholders, aiming at the maximization of the SKF results

    • Deliver the appropriate level of quality, on time and within planned effort with a strong service mindset.

    • Seek external customer contact in collaboration with related SKF colleagues.

    • Demonstrate a strong outside-in attitude.

    • Provide training to colleagues, as required to provide knowledge transfer and sharing according to business demand




  • Competent Process and Operations Management


    • Effectively apply SKF processes and quality standards for product development and linked tasks

    • Ensure that EHS (environment, health and safety) regulations and guidelines are observed and operations are run according to the SKF Code of Conduct

    • Take appropriate actions to maintain and improve the working environment and working practices.

    • Actively follow appropriate internal and external quality standards

    • Effectively plan, optimize, manage, and monitor own time




  • Strong Knowledge Management Practices


    • Have strong knowledge of technological developments and know-how to contribute to the continuous improvement of SKF's knowledge within the area of responsibility

    • Ensure consistently manufacturability and robustness of product, to fit application specific requirements

    • Manage effective alignment with process development and manufacturing capabilities (present and future), globally and regionally

    • Support the organization in the implementation of required quality standard and deviation handling principles

    • Collaborate with Process Development and Bearing Operations, to optimize the design for manufacturing and design for cost

    • Support product verifications and validations, in cooperation with the Testing organization

    • Engineer products specifications fulfilling SKF quality and performance demands

    • Support the implementation, utilization and further development of design automation principles and their application in own field of responsibility

    • Have a good understanding of the competitor product and product designs and linked technologies

    • Support the implementation of required quality standard and deviation handling principles (TER involvement)

    • Strong knowledge of technological developments and know-how. To contribute to the continuous improvement of SKF's knowledge within the area of responsibility.



Job Requirements


  • Bachelor's Degree; Technical

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in related field

  • Engineering and/or R&D background

  • Proven ability to develop positive and lasting rapport with both internal and external customers at all levels of an organization

  • Broad technical product understanding with a genuine "outside-in" mind

  • Strong product and application knowledge

  • Strong manufacturing process and testing knowledge

  • Thrives in a team environment

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
