Job Description:

We are seeking an innovative engineering student to join our AET R&D team for a CO-OP beginning in January 2022.

CONMED Advanced Endoscopic Technologies (AET) products are used by Gastroenterologists to diagnose and treat diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Our strategic focus is to advance therapeutic endoscopy across a wide range of applications. Our medical device products are used in various procedures including Colonoscopies, EGD (Upper GI) and ERCP (examination of the pancreatic and bile ducts). Our product portfolio also includes patient monitoring products.

As an AET R&D Engineering CO-OP, you will learn alongside seasoned professionals through hands on application of engineering principles and methodologies. Your efforts in problem solving, innovation and cross-functional collaboration will directly contribute to the team's R&D projects and initiatives. Within this close-knit team, you will work directly on products that are currently on the market, as well as next generation devices that are in the development pipeline.

The Co-Op's responsibilities will include:


  • Conduct and support system and product reliability testing by confirming methods and procedures as well as designing required tooling

  • Design test and product specifications based on benchtop testing and clinician feedback

  • Work with Sales and Marketing teams to define customer needs, develop ergonomic solutions and gain feedback

  • Review test specifications, procedures and process instructions

  • Maintain test equipment configurations and standardization

  • Author and/or assist in the creation of new test methods and protocols

  • Work in a team to support engineering efforts, propose and implement technical solutions

  • Work with design, manufacturing, and quality engineers to bring novel concepts from idea to production

  • Develop fixturing/instrumentation to execute tests using injection molding, additive manufacturing (3D printing, metal laser sintering) using 3D modeling (SolidWorks)

  • Research and test new equipment and materials for concept development & prototyping

  • Learn key GI anatomy and surgical practices in minimally invasive flexible endoscopy

Position Requirements:

* Pursing completion of a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, with a focus on mechanical engineering or biomedical engineering preferred
* Must be available to work onsite out of the Westborough, Massachusetts facility, Monday - Friday throughout the semester starting (January 2022 - June 2022) with the potential to be extended into next semester for the right candidate.
